  • Giants' Jung Hoo Lee: Undergoing season-ending surgery

Lee is set to undergo season-ending surgery in the next few weeks for a torn labrum in his left shoulder, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Lee sustained the injury in the top of the first inning of Sunday's game against the Reds, when he crashed into the outfield wall while attempting to make a catch. He was placed on the 10-day IL with what was initially diagnosed as a dislocated left shoulder, but an MRI on Tuesday revealed further structural damage. Lee received multiple opinions on the injury, and season-ending surgery has ultimately been decided on for the 25-year-old outfielder. Lee signed a six-year, $113 million with the Giants in December of 2023 after seven seasons in the Korea Baseball Organization, and he will end his first season in the majors slashing .262/.310/.331 with four doubles, two home runs and eight RBI over 158 plate appearances. Luis Matos has started in center field in each game since Lee's injury, and the former will reprise that role again Friday against the Rockies.

  • Giants' Jung Hoo Lee: Swipes first MLB bag

Lee went 1-for-5 with a run scored and a stolen base in Friday's 2-1 loss to the Rays.

The 25-year-old center fielder created the Giants' only run of the night single-handedly -- Lee led off the third inning with a single, promptly swiped second base, advanced to third on Ben Rortvedt's throwing error and then raced home on a Jacob Waguespack wild pitch. It was Lee's first steal in MLB, but he isn't known as a big threat on the basepaths -- his career high in the KBO was 13 stolen bases, set back in 2019, and he went 6-for-9 on steal attempts with Kiwoon in 2023. Through his first 13 games with San Francisco, Lee is slashing .250/.305/.327 with a homer, four RBI and five runs while hitting leadoff in every contest.
