Royals' Hunter Renfroe: On bench again Wednesday
Renfroe is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees.
Renfroe is out of the lineup against a right-hander for the third time in four games after an 0-for-3 performance in Tuesday's 4-2 loss brought his season-long batting line down to .119/.213/.143 over 47 plate appearances. Since Renfroe has yet to turn the corner offensively, the Royals will likely continue to give opportunities to Cavan Biggio and Drew Waters in right field as they look to see whether either player can offer more of a boost to the offense.

Renfroe is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Yankees.
Renfroe cracked the starting nine in eight of the Royals' first 10 contests, but his hold on a near-everyday role could be slipping. Royals' Hunter Renfroe: Feeling good despite slow spring
Renfroe is hitting just .188 (3-for-16) with a home run this spring, but he says a return to full health has been his priority after a back injury, a broken left toe and right hamstring strain slowed him last season, MLB.com reports. "It was a big issue," Renfroe said. "Toward the middle part of the season, some things popped up. And that led to lower back, hamstring. It's all connected. But it feels good now. I was hoping that when I started up this offseason that I wouldn't feel it, and I didn't, which was great."
Renfroe had a disappointing 2024 season by hitting just .229 with 15 home runs and a .689 OPS over 120 regular-season games. His performance this spring isn't inspiring confidence that he'll have a bounceback season, but he appears set for an everyday role in right field.

Royals' Hunter Renfroe: Sticking with Royals
Renfroe exercised his $7.6 million player option for the 2025 season Thursday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.
The veteran outfielder began the season as the starting right fielder for the Royals, though his role shrunk after the acquisitions of Tommy Pham and Robbie Grossman. Renfroe's primary shortcoming was a lack of power, as he posted a career-low .163 ISO across 424 plate appearances. Pham is entering free agency, which could give Renfroe a shot to start again entering 2025.

The veteran outfielder has added 52 RBI, 44 runs scored, one stolen base, 18 doubles and a .229/.297/.392 slash line over 120 contests. He enters the postseason in a timeshare with Tommy Pham and Adam Frazier for playing time in right field.
