  • Chris Heisey: Cut loose by Minnesota

Heisey was released by the Twins on Thursday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic Minnesota reports.

Heisey never stood much of a chance to crack the active roster, and his .444 OPS in 36 spring plate appearances affirmed that notion. He has a wealth of big-league experience that could prove to be helpful in a minor-league deal, but his career numbers in the big leagues are nothing to get excited about.

  • Twins' Chris Heisey: Joins Twins on minors deal

Heisey signed a minor-league contract with the Twins on Tuesday which includes an invitation to spring training, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Heisey appeared in just 38 games for the Nationals last season due to a pair of injuries, struggling to a .162/.215/.270 slash line across 79 plate appearances when healthy. An impressive spring could help the 33-year-old break camp as a reserve outfielder, though he'll likely serve as organizational outfield depth in 2018. He owns a combined .216/.276/.387 slash line across the past five seasons.

  • Chris Heisey: Released by Nats

Heisey (groin) was released by the Nationals on Sunday, Chelsea Janes of The Washington Post reports.

The Nationals' recent acquisition of outfielder Howie Kendrick coupled with the fact that Heisey has been sidelined with a groin injury led to the veteran outfielder being released by the club with whom he'd spent the last two seasons. The 32-year-old, who is hitting just .162 in 79 plate appearances this season, will look to pick up with a new organization.

  • Nationals' Chris Heisey: Runs bases Thursday

Heisey (groin) was able to run the bases prior to Thursday's game against the Brewers, Chelsea Janes of The Washington Post reports.

This marks the first time that Heisey tested out his groin on the bases after landing on the disabled list Sunday. The outfielder should be able to return once he's eligible, as this appears to be a minor setback. Heisey is hitting .162/.215/.270 in just 38 games, but should have no problem wrestling away playing time in the thin Washington outfield.

  • Nationals' Chris Heisey: Groin injury results in DL trip

Heisey (groin) was placed on the 10-day disabled list Sunday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNsports.com reports.

Heisey suffered the injury attempting to leg out a triple in Saturday's game, and reports surfaced Sunday morning that the injury would land him on the disabled list. The Nationals followed through with that move, calling up Andrew Stevenson in a corresponding move to maintain depth in the outfield.

  • Nationals' Chris Heisey: Tweaks groin on triple

Heisey hurt his groin while legging out a triple in Saturday's game, Dan Kolko of MASN Sports reports.

He went 1-for-4 with a run and a walk, but that one hit was costly, as it sounds like he will be unavailable for Sunday's series finale against the Diamondbacks. Ryan Raburn is going on the bereavement list Sunday and Jayson Werth and Michael Taylor are already on the DL, so the Nationals' outfield will be stretched incredibly thin in the short term.

  • Nationals' Chris Heisey: Picks up another start in left field

Heisey will start in left field and bat seventh Sunday against the Reds, Jorge Castillo of The Washington Post reports.

Heisey will receive his second start in three games to open up the second half as the Nationals look to find a replacement for Michael Taylor (oblique), who remains on the 10-day disabled list. Taylor isn't expected to miss extensive time and has resumed baseball activities, but Heisey and Ryan Raburn could benefit from extra at-bats in the short term nonetheless.

  • Nationals' Chris Heisey: Reinstated from DL

Heisey (bicep) was activated from the 10-day disabled list Friday, Chelsea Janes of The Washington Post reports.

Heisey hasn't played since May 23 while recovering from a right bicep rupture and was delayed by an unfortunate setback during his rehab assignment. Nonetheless, the veteran outfielder appears good to go after appearing in five contests with Triple-A Syracuse and returns to bolster an injury-depleted Nationals outfield. With Jayson Werth (toe) and Michael Taylor (oblique) both sidelined indefinitely, Heisey could see plenty of opportunities to make a case for extensive playing time.

  • Nationals' Chris Heisey: Not expected back this week

Manager Dusty Baker said Tuesday that Heisey (biceps) would remain on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Syracuse "a little longer," Jorge Castillo of The Washington Post reports.

While Baker didn't specify a length for Heisey's rehab assignment, his comment implies that the outfielder isn't expected to be activated from the 10-day disabled list until after the All-Star break. Heisey has already made five rehab appearances, with his last three coming at the Triple-A level. He's recorded two hits in nine at-bats with Buffalo.

  • Nationals' Chris Heisey: Heads to Syracuse for rehab assignment

Heisey (biceps) will head to Triple-A Syracuse for a rehab assignment that begins Friday, Jorge Castillo of the Washington Post reports.

Heisey has been on the disabled list for over a month now, and appears to be near 100 percent as he journeys to Syracuse for his rehab assignment. The 32-year-old began hitting Saturday, and could return to the team before the All-Star break barring any additional setbacks.

  • Nationals' Chris Heisey: Taking batting practice Monday

Heisey (biceps) will take batting practice before Monday's game against the Cubs, Chelsea Janes of The Washington Post reports.

Heisey appears to be back on track in his rehab after suffering a setback earlier in the month. The Nationals will likely continue to take it slow with the 32-year-old, whose setback was said to be a result of trying to rush back from the injury. Heisey will continue to ramp up his baseball activities before resuming his rehab assignment.

  • Nationals' Chris Heisey: Suffers setback in rehab

Heisey (biceps) suffered a setback in his rehab and will be temporarily shut down, Jamal Collier of MLB.com reports.

Heisey had played just two rehab games with Double-A Harrisburg before he was re-evaluated by trainers, who determined his arm had not fully healed. The 32-year-old is recovering from a right biceps tendon rupture and manager Dusty Baker said his outfielder may have been trying to rush back into action too quickly. Heisey will lay off baseball activities until his swelling goes down, at which point a new timetable for his return could materialize.

  • Nationals' Chris Heisey: Begins rehab assignment

Heisey (biceps) will begin a rehab assignment Monday with Double-A Harrisburg.

It was initially speculated that Heisey would be in store for a long-term absence after he was diagnosed with a ruptured biceps tendon last week, but despite the serious-sounding nature of the injury, it appears the outfielder will be able to play through the issue so long as he can tolerate the pain. He's on track to play three games in Harrisburg before potentially coming off the disabled list later this week.

  • Nationals' Chris Heisey: Won't need surgery

Heisey (biceps) was diagnosed with a complete biceps tendon rupture Friday but will not need surgery, Jorge Castillo of The Washington Post reports.

Due to which biceps tendon he tore and the way he tore it, Heisey dodged a much longer and arduous recovery timetable. He'll instead focus on rehabbing his biceps with stretching and strengthening while managing the pain. The veteran will test his arm with some light throwing and swinging drills in the coming days, after which more information on his rehab program should come forth.

  • Nationals' Chris Heisey: MRI on tap

Heisey will undergo an MRI on his right biceps Thursday to determine if he'll need surgery, Dan Kolko of MASN Sports reports.

Heisey apparently tore his right biceps tendon while taking a swing during batting practice Wednesday, forcing him to land on the disabled list. While he maintains it's not a season-ending injury, more should be known following Thursday's tests.

  • Nationals' Chris Heisey: Lands on DL

Heisey was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a right bicep rupture, Chelsea Janes of The Washington Post reports.

It's unclear when Heisey sustained the injury, as he was seen taking batting practice on the field prior to Wednesday's matchup with the Mariners. The 32-year-old was just 6-for-47 (.128) on the season before hitting the DL. A clearer timetable for his return should become available once the Nationals update his status. In the meantime, Brian Goodwin was recalled from Triple-A to take his place on the roster.

  • Nationals' Chris Heisey: Removed from lineup

Heisey, who was originally scheduled to start in left field, will instead come off the bench Wednesday against the Orioles.

It looked like manager Dusty Baker was going to give Jayson Werth a day off Wednesday, but the skipper ended up changing his mind, resulting in Heisey dropping out of the lineup. With Wednesday's start marking Werth's 17th straight, it shouldn't be long before he gets a breather, which would likely then allow Heisey to draw another turn in the outfield.

  • Nationals' Chris Heisey: Starting in right field Friday

Heisey is starting in right field for Friday's game against the Phillies.

With Bryce Harper day-to-day due to groin tightness, Heisey could be in line for an increase in playing time -- at least for a couple days. The journeyman outfielder is making his first start since April 21, but he hasn't really had a chance to produce this year, going 4-for-25 in a limited capacity.

  • Nationals' Chris Heisey: Collects two hits Wednesday

Heisey replaced Jayson Werth (groin) in the third inning Wednesday and went 2-for-5 with a double, a run scored and an RBI in a 14-4 rout of the Braves.

Werth's injury isn't thought to be serious, but given his age and extensive history of breakdowns, the Nats will likely be cautious in getting him back into the lineup. Heisey will split time in left field with Michael Taylor in the meantime, but they'll likely share the load relatively equally as both are right-handed. Washington begins a three-game series in Colorado on Monday, however, so if Werth is still on the mend by then, Heisey could well be worth a short-term add in deep fantasy formats for those precious Coors Field at-bats.

  • Nationals' Chris Heisey: Still in pinch-hitting role

Heisey has one hit, a home run, in six at-bats this season.

Heisey has started only a single game, in which he hit that home run. He's gone hitless with a walk as a pinch hitter. In 2016, Heisey had 155 plate appearances, and nine of his 30 hits were home runs.
