Boston starter Felix Doubront is expected to make his return from the disabled list Sunday, WEEI.com reported Wednesday.

Doubront has been out with a knee injury since Aug. 10. The 25-year-old has thrown 122.2 innings this season for the Red Sox, just under seven less than his career high. As such, the Red Sox may look at this forced rest as something of a blessing, as Doubront appeared to be running out of gas prior to the injury. Since June 8, over his last 60 innings, Doubront has a 5.67 ERA and has allowed 10 home runs in 11 starts.

Doubront's arrival in the Boston rotation appears likely to push out Aaron Cook. Cook, in one of the season's great phenomenons, has managed just 11 strikeouts in his 62 innings this season. The resulting 1.6 K/9 would be the fourth-lowest rate since expansion in 1961.
