Orioles' Reimold OK after being hit in face with pitch in exhibition

Nolan Reimold was been taken to the hospital after being hit in the left side of his face with a pitch, but a CT scan showed no broken bones.

Orioles left fielder Nolan Reimold didn't suffer any broken bones after he was hit in the face with a pitch Friday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.

Orioles manager Buck Showalter told reporters that CT scans of Reimold's face showed no broken bones and the outfielder suffered just bruises and a loose tooth.

The pitch from Tampa Bay's Alex Cobb struck Reimold on the left side of his face, but it appeared at the time that Reimold was conscious and alert.

"I was sure he would have lost some teeth," Showalter said (via MASN Sports). But I'll tell you, he got as much jaw as he got helmet. The sound is one we've all heard at some point and it's not a pleasant sound. I can tell you that.

Reimold, 28, is competing for the left field job with Endy Chavez this spring, and he's also an option at DH. Reimold hit .247/.328/.453 with 13 homers and 45 RBI in 305 plate appearances last season. He's long shown decent power, with a 162-game average of 22 homers in his big-league career, but inconsistency and at times a low on-base percentage have prevented him from being a regular.
