A whole new slate of players became free agents on Monday. Forty-three players, in fact. Midnight ET was the deadline for teams to tender contracts to their players without multiyear contracts and fewer than six full years of service time. The offer has to be at least 80 percent of their 2013 salary and the player doesn't even have to accept. It just has to be made.
Eligible players who are not offered contracts -- affectionately known as non-tenders -- become free agents. This year's crop of non-tenders include a former AL All-Star closer and a former NL saves king, among many others. Some are former top prospects, some are spare parts, and others are hanger-ons looking for one last shot. They all have one thing in common: their teams decided they were not worth their projected 2014 salary and walked away.
Here are this year's non-tendered players, listed by team. They are all free to sign a contract of any size with any team now. The Tigers have not yet made an official announcement by they are expected to tender all of their eligible players.
