Commanders' Deshazor Everett: Faces manslaughter charge

The Loudoun County (Va.) Magistrate's Office charged Everett on Tuesday with involuntary manslaughter stemming from his involvement in a Dec. 23 car accident, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.

He was charged after the Loudoun County Sheriff's department's investigation determined that he was driving at "over twice the posted 45-mile-per-hour speed limit just prior to the crash," which resulted in the death of his girlfriend, who was a passenger in his vehicle. Everett escaped the accident with non-life-threatening injuries, but still missed Washington's last three games of the season while he was on the non-football injury list. In a statement, his attorney said he plans to "vigorously defend Mr. Everett against these allegations," which suggests resolution on whether the 29-year-old safety will be able to resume his football career may not come for several months.
