  • Diamondbacks' Blaze Alexander: Fills in at second base

Alexander started at second base and went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Friday's 5-4 win over Philadelphia.

Alexander filled in for Ketel Marte for a second straight game -- Marte served as the designated hitter Thursday -- but the Diamondbacks have not indicated there's any issues with their primary second baseman. Since Arizona manager Torey Lovullo mentioned last week that Alexander would see more playing time, primarily at third base for the slumping Eugenio Suarez, the young infielder is 2-for-16 with a walk over five starts.

  • Ezequiel Tovar SS | COL

Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Goes deep in loss

Tovar went 3-for-5 with a solo home run in Friday's loss to Washington.

Tovar was stuck in a small 1-for-18 slump over his previous five games before Friday's strong performance. He put the Rockies on the board with a solo shot in the third inning, giving him 12 homers this year and four in his last 13 contests. Tovar is slashing .285/.312/.487 with 37 extra-base hits and 40 runs scored through 75 games this season.

  • C.J. Abrams SS | WAS

Nationals' CJ Abrams: Reaches base four times

Abrams (wrist) went 3-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored, an RBI, a stolen base and a walk in Friday's win over the Rockies.

Abrams returned to the lineup after missing the previous two games and wasted no time making an impact, ripping a double on the first pitch of the game. He knocked an RBI double later in the game. The 23-year-old shortstop is heating up again; he's gone 13-for-28 (.464) with six extra-base hits over his last eight games. In 12 games prior to that, he posted a .510 OPS with no multi-hit performances. Abrams is slashing .267/.320/.487 on the year with 33 extra-base hits and 11 steals.

Phillies' Trea Turner: Homers, drives in three in loss

Turner went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in a 5-4 loss to the Diamondbacks on Friday.

Turner hit a two-run home run off Jordan Montgomery in the third inning then added an RBI single with the bases loaded in the seventh. Turner has gone 5-for-14 since returning from a hamstring injury, and the homer was his first since April 17. He has been excellent when healthy this season, slashing .344/.389/.470 with three home runs, 12 RBI, 29 runs scored and 10 steals over 162 plate appearances.

Nationals' CJ Abrams: Says he's good to go

Abrams (wrist) said that he's "good to go" for Friday's game against the Rockies, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports

Abrams was scratched from Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks and missed Thursday's game before an MRI revealed he was dealing with a cyst in his left wrist. However, he'll be back in action for Friday's matchup with the Rockies.

  • C.J. Abrams SS | WAS

Nationals' CJ Abrams: Day-to-day following MRI on wrist

Abrams is considered day-to-day after an MRI revealed a ganglion cyst on his left wrist, Spencer Nusbaum of The Washington Post reports.

A ganglion cyst is a noncancerous lump which is commonly found on the tendons or joints of the wrists and hands. While the cyst has caused Abrams some discomfort, it's something that will often clear on its own. The shortstop could be back in the lineup this weekend in Colorado.

  • Giants' Tyler Fitzgerald: Added as 27th man

The Giants recalled Fitzgerald from Triple-A Sacramento on Thursday.

Fitzgerald will serve as the team's 27th man during Thursday's game against the Cardinals at Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Ala. The utility player is likely to be sent back to Sacramento following the contest.

  • C.J. Abrams SS | WAS

Nationals' CJ Abrams: Not in Thursday's lineup

Abrams (wrist) is out of the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Diamondbacks.

Abrams was scratched from the lineup ahead of Wednesday's 3-1 win and was set to undergo an MRI on his left wrist. The results of his imaging haven't been revealed, but Abrams will miss a second straight start Thursday. The Nationals should have more information on the Abrams' condition before long. Ildemaro Vargas will fill in for Abrams at shortstop.

  • Diamondbacks' Geraldo Perdomo: Sitting out Thursday

Perdomo isn't in the lineup for Thursday's contest against the Nationals.

Perdomo had started five straight games and seven of eight since returning from the injured list June 11, but he'll begin the series finale in Washington on the bench. Kevin Newman will handle shortstop for the Diamondbacks on Thursday.

  • Diamondbacks' Geraldo Perdomo: First hitless game since activation

Perdomo went 0-for-3 in Wednesday's 3-1 loss to Washington.

Perdomo, who was given a rest day after two games following his activation off the injured list last week, has started five consecutive since then. Wednesday's 0-fer was his first after hitting safely in his first six contests (8-for-22).
