The Orioles optioned Stowers to Triple-A Norfolk on Friday, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports. Stowers is tied for the Grapefruit League lead with seven home runs this spring, but ultimately it still wasn't enough to force his way onto the Orioles' crowded roster. The 26-year-old will be given regular playing time at Norfolk while awaiting another shot in the majors.... See More ... See Less

Orioles' Kyle Stowers: Making case for bench spot
Stowers hit three home runs in Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Tigers to bring his total to seven homers this spring. He is batting .275/.286/.800 through 17 exhibition games. Stowers has minor-league options remaining and there are a number of fresh faces pushing to make the Orioles' Opening Day roster. While the power numbers this spring look good, his 1:12 BB:K is less impressive (and arguably more meaningful in a small sample). Strikeouts have been an issue for Stowers at the upper levels -- the 26-year-old has three home runs and a 31.3 percent strikeout rate in 131 major-league plate appearances to date. He's also limited defensively to the outfield corners.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Kyle Stowers: Solid showing early in camp
Stowers has been hitting lefties well during live batting practice sessions in camp, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Stowers is 1-for-5 in Grapefruit League play as well, with his lone hit a solo home run off Atlanta lefty Dylan Lee. Kubatko notes the Orioles' competition for outfield spots will be a challenging one -- Austin Hays, Cedric Mullins and Anthony Santander are virtual locks for starting roles. Stowers is among a group of four or five players competing for two spots at most on the Opening Day roster, so he'll need to continue to put together good at-bats, against all pitchers, to open the campaign in Baltimore.... Orioles' Kyle Stowers: Activated off minor-league IL
Stowers (nose) was activated from the injured list Friday at Triple-A Norfolk, Steve Melewski of MASNSports.com reports. Stowers only wound up missing a couple of weeks because of a fractured nose. The 25-year-old outfielder has struggled in limited action this season at the major-league level but carries a .942 OPS with 18 homers and 51 RBI in 67 minor-league games.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Kyle Stowers: Active at Triple-A
Stowers (shoulder) was activated from the injured list at Triple-A Norfolk and went 0-for-3 with two walks and one strikeout Friday against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Stowers hit .560 with four home runs in seven rehab games, split between the Florida Complex League and High-A Aberdeen. The 25-year-old outfielder hit .067 with a 36.4 percent strikeout rate in 33 plate appearances for the big club earlier this year. He may have missed his chance to carve out a role, as the big-league outfield is pretty crowded following the recent promotion of top prospect Colton Cowser.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Kyle Stowers: Begins rehab assignment
Stowers (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with the Orioles' Florida Complex League affiliate on Thursday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Stowers has been on the injured list at Triple-A Norfolk for more than a month with right shoulder inflammation but is finally ready to test things out in a game situation. He should return to Norfolk's active roster soon, provided he has no setbacks.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Kyle Stowers: Demoted to Triple-A
The Orioles optioned Stowers to Triple-A Norfolk on Monday. Stowers will head back to Norfolk after he went 2-for-26 with no extra-base hits and nine strikeouts over 11 games since being recalled April 30. The outfielder is batting just .067 over 30 at-bats this season with the Orioles and will look to get right with Norfolk before potentially returning to Baltimore later this season. Reliever Logan Gillaspie was called up from Triple-A on Monday and will replace Stowers on the 26-man roster.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Kyle Stowers: Riding pine Saturday
Stowers is not in Saturday's lineup against the Pirates. Despite a righty (Roansy Contreras) being on the hill for Pittsburgh, Stowers will head to the bench while Ryan O'Hearn picks up a start at designated hitter. Stowers is 2-for-22 (.091 AVG) with zero home runs in 10 games since getting recalled from Triple-A on April 30.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Kyle Stowers: Starting in right
Stowers is starting in right field and batting ninth for the Orioles in Friday's game versus the Pirates, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports. Stowers is just 2-for-24 on the season and hitless in his last 14 at-bats, but the O's are still rolling him out there regularly against righties of late. He'll have to show something soon for that to continue.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Kyle Stowers: Sitting against southpaw
Stowers is not in the starting lineup Wednesday against the Rays, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports. Stowers will take a seat against left-hander Jalen Beeks on Wednesday. Anthony Santander will get the start in right field while Ryan O'Hearn will operate as the designated hitter.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Kyle Stowers: On bench versus lefty
Stowers is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rays. The lefty-hitting Stowers will head to the bench against Tampa Bay southpaw Shane McClanahan while Austin Hays and Anthony Santander occupy the corner spots in the Baltimore outfield in the series opener. Stowers has started in each of the Orioles' last five matchups with right-handed pitchers, but he's gone just 2-for-17 at the dish since receiving a call-up from Triple-A Norfolk. The 25-year-old could soon be in danger of losing hold of a strong-side platoon role.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Kyle Stowers: Receives first start
Stowers is in left field and batting sixth for the Orioles in Monday's game in Texas. It's the first start of the season for Stowers, who had been limited to one pinch-hitting appearance which resulted in a strikeout. It had seemed like the 25-year-old was headed for a significant role between designated hitter and some starts in the outfield, but that hasn't come to fruition yet.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Kyle Stowers: Not starting Saturday
Stowers remains on the bench Saturday against Boston, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Stowers featured regularly down the stretch last season and seemed to have the chance to do the same at the start of this year, with the designated hitter spot his most likely home. Instead, the Orioles have rotated other regulars through the position, with Gunnar Henderson serving as the DH on Opening Day and Anthony Santander filling the role Saturday.... See More ... Orioles' Kyle Stowers: Decent start to spring
Stowers has gone 5-for-13 with a double, two RBI, one run scored and a 3:3 BB:K across five Grapefruit League games. Stowers did alright in his first taste of the majors last season, slashing .253/.306/.418 with three home runs, one triple, four doubles, 11 RBI and 11 runs scored across 98 plate appearances. The 25-year-old enters 2023 unlikely to win an outfield spot all to himself, but the lefty hitter should have a good chance to play a strong-side platoon role between designated hitter and the corner outfield positions.... Orioles' Kyle Stowers: Sitting in Game 1
Stowers is not in the starting lineup for Game 1 of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Blue Jays, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports. Stowers will get a breather after he went 0-for-3 with a strikeout in the first game of the series Monday. Anthony Santander will slide into the designated hitter spot while Ryan McKenna enters the lineup in left field and bats eighth in Game 1.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Kyle Stowers: Slugs third career homer
Stowers went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored Thursday against the Red Sox. Stowers took Matt Strahm yeard in the seventh inning to tie the game and tally his third career homer. He's gone deep twice in his last nine starts, and he's also chipped in a .360 batting average with six RBI and six runs scored in that span. Stowers has been fairly impressive across the first 79 plate appearances of his career by maintaining a 99 wRC+.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Kyle Stowers: Sitting against lefty
Stowers isn't in the lineup Wednesday against Boston, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Stowers started the last three games but will get a breather with left-hander Rich Hill on the mound for the Red Sox on Wednesday. Anthony Santander is taking over in left field and batting third.... Orioles' Kyle Stowers: Three-hit effort in win
Stowers went 3-for-5 with a triple, two RBI and a run scored in Monday's 14-8 win over the Red Sox. Stowers' RBI triple in the third inning was the first three-bagger of his major-league career. He also added an RBI single in the fifth. The rookie outfielder has hit .300 (12-for-40) in September, and he's posted a .268/.316/.408 slash line with two home runs, nine RBI, nine runs scored and a pair of doubles across 76 plate appearances in the majors this year.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Kyle Stowers: Drives in three runs
Stowers went 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's 8-1 victory over Detroit. With the Orioles already up 3-0 and a runner on base in the sixth inning, Stowers took Matt Manning deep to center for his second long ball of the season and extended the lead to five. He also singled in a run in the eighth inning to give him three RBI on the night. The productive performance helps the rookie's case for increased playing time, but it remains unlikely he plays every day to close the season.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Kyle Stowers: On outs for everyday role
Stowers is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Guardians. Stowers is sitting for the third time in four games, and he looks like he'll be the odd man out for a regular spot in the Baltimore lineup with the Orioles bringing up top prospect Gunnar Henderson from Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday to make his MLB debut. With Henderson projected to see most of his opportunities at third base, Ramon Urias could end up seeing more starts at designated hitter while Anthony Santander holds down an everyday role in the outfield alongside Austin Hays and Cedric Mullins....
