  • Rams' Tyler Johnson: Earns just two touches in 2023

Johnson caught two passes for eight yards and a touchdown during the 2023 regular season.

There was little opportunity for the fourth year wideout to produce, as the receiving corps as a whole for the Rams stayed relatively healthy apart from Cooper Kupp missing four games at the start of the year. Johnson was only activated from the practice squad once all season, earning his third touchdown in four seasons in the NFL with both the Rams and 49ers resting starters for the playoffs. Johnson is a restricted free agent in 2024, but with how little he was utilized by the Rams, he likely will have to find an opportunity elsewhere next season.

  • Rams' Tyler Johnson: Scores first touchdown since 2020

Johnson secured two of three targets for eight yards and a touchdown during Sunday's 21-20 victory against San Francisco.

With the Rams resting players, Johnson was activated from the practice squad for the second time this season and made his first appearance in a game since 2022 count. Carson Wentz threw a dart to Johnson in the back of the end zone on a crucial third down, giving Johnson an eight-yard touchdown catch, his first score since his rookie campaign with Tampa Bay in 2020. The Rams are firmly entrenched with Cooper Kupp (coach's decision), Puka Nacua and Demarcus Robinson as their starters and have Tutu Atwell, Ben Skowronek and Austin Trammell as backups, so Johnson's time on the main roster this season is likely over barring an injury in the playoffs.

  • Rams' Tyler Johnson: Joins Los Angeles' active roster

The Rams signed Johnson to the 53-man roster Tuesday.

Johnson joined the Rams' practice squad Aug. 30 after failing to make the initial 53-man roster ahead of the deadline. His sole elevation came in Week 15 against the Commanders, but he was inactive for the game. Johnson last suited up in 2022 with the Texans, for whom he played 28 offensive snaps over two games without recording a stat.

  • Tyler Johnson: Returns to practice squad

Johnson reverted to the Rams' practice squad Monday.

Johnson was active, but he didn't play in Sunday's win over the Commanders. The wide receiver has yet to appear in a game this season and will now wait for his next shot to be elevated from the practice unit.

  • Rams' Tyler Johnson: Elevated from practice squad

Johnson was elevated from the practice squad by the Rams on Saturday.

The wide receiver was waived by the Rams on Aug. 30 after not making the 53-man roster, but he rejoined the team as a member of the practice squad. Johnson has yet to play in a game this season. The fourth-year pro remains buried behind a slew of healthy wide receivers on the Rams' depth chart in Cooper Kupp, Puka Nacua, Demarcus Robinson, Ben Skowronek and Austin Trammell.

  • Tyler Johnson: Earns practice squad opportunity

The Rams signed Johnson to their practice squad, Stu Jackson of the Rams' official site reports.

Despite being waived by the Rams after not making the 53-man roster, Johnson will rejoin the team as a member of its practice squad. The wideout will continue to practice with the team and be available in the event the Rams need him.

  • Tyler Johnson: Waived by Los Angeles

The Rams waived Johnson on Tuesday, Stu Jackson of the Rams' official site reports.

Johnson had a stellar performance during the Rams' preseason opener but declined over the next two exhibition matchups and was unable to land a spot on the 53-man roster. The Minnesota product appeared in just two games with the Texans last year and will now need to seek out other opportunities.

  • Rams' Tyler Johnson: Garners just six yards

Johnson caught two of three targets for six yards in Saturday's 41-0 preseason loss to the Broncos.

Drawing the start alongside fellow roster bubble candidate Demarcus Robinson, Johnson was unable to do much with his trio of targets on a night the Rams offense as a whole failed at every level. Ben Skowronek notably got the night off, a sign coach Sean McVay is sold on him making the 53-man roster. This would make Skowronek the fifth wideout on the team along with Cooper Kupp, Van Jefferson, Tutu Atwell and Puka Nacua. The Rams did keep seven wide receivers on their roster last year, but if they choose to add more depth at other positions, Robinson's utility at multiple roles in the offense might give him a slight edge over Johnson for what could be the final wide receiver slot on the team.

  • Rams' Tyler Johnson: Earns seven targets

Johnson caught three of seven targets for 35 yards during Saturday's 34-17 preseason loss to the Raiders.

It was a game of highs and lows for the 24-year-old, as he snared a 24-yard dart from Stetson Bennett during a second-quarter drive that led to a field goal but was also part of a blown play between himself and the rookie quarterback that led to a pick-six for the Raiders. The good news for Johnson is that he still led all Rams wide receivers in yardage and tied with Demarcus Robinson for targets, a sign the duo signed in free agency are being given ample opportunity to secure spots on the final 53-man roster. Johnson will have one final opportunity to showcase his abilities in the Rams' preseason finale Saturday against the Broncos.

  • Rams' Tyler Johnson: Paces L.A. receivers in loss

Johnson secured five of seven targets for 70 yards during the Rams' 34-17 preseason loss to the Chargers on Saturday.

A breakout performance in the preseason doesn't always translate to success in the regular season; just ask 2022 Rams preseason darling Lance McCutcheon. But it does help move the needle above fellow wideouts who may be on the roster bubble, and Johnson impressed with a pair of lengthy catches, including a team-high 34-yard scamper on a slant route, and led the team in catches, targets and yardage. With Cooper Kupp (hamstring), Van Jefferson, Puka Nacua, Tutu Atwell and Ben Skowronek all likely to make the initial 53-man roster, Johnson and fellow free-agent signing DeMarcus Robinson are in a pack with McCutcheon, Austin Trammel and Xavier Smith, among others, for likely two remaining roster spots, as the Rams kept seven wide receivers on the initial 53-man roster in 2022.

  • Rams' Tyler Johnson: Lands in Los Angeles

The Rams signed Johnson on Tuesday.

Los Angeles will be Johnson's third stop this calendar year after he was released by the Bucs in January, signed by the Raiders shortly after, and then cut by Las Vegas two weeks ago. The 24-year-old appeared in two games for the Texans last season but didn't earn a target on 29 offensive snaps. He'll try to revive his career in the Rams' depleted wideout room behind Cooper Kupp.

  • Tyler Johnson: Dumped by Las Vegas

The Raiders waived Johnson on Monday.

The 24-year-old inked a reserve/future contract with the Silver and Black earlier in the offseason after appearing in two games for the Texans in 2022. Johnson heads back to the open market, where he will again look for a team willing to let him compete for a depth job.

  • Raiders' Tyler Johnson: Heads to Las Vegas

The Raiders signed Johnson to a reserve/future contract Wednesday.

Johnson was drafted by Tampa Bay in the fifth round in 2020 and appeared in 31 games during his first two NFL seasons, totaling 48 receptions on 72 targets for 529 yards and two scores. He was claimed off waivers by the Texans at the beginning of the 2022 campaign, but he made just two appearances with Houston and didn't garner any targets across 28 offensive snaps. He rejoined Tampa Bay's practice squad after the Texans waived him in late October, but he was never elevated and ultimately became a free agent after the Buccaneers were eliminated from the playoffs. With his new contract, Johnson will join his third NFL organization and will have a chance to compete for a roster spot during the offseason.

  • Tyler Johnson: Signed to Bucs' practice squad

Johnson was signed to the Buccaneers' practice squad Monday.

Johnson will return to Tampa Bay after he played in 17 games with the team in 2021, reeling in 36 catches for 360 yards over those contests. With Russell Gage (hamstring) still banged up, it's possible that Johnson could be elevated to the active roster if Gage remains out. The wide receiver appeared in two games with the Texans this season, failing to garner a target over 28 offensive snaps.

  • Tyler Johnson: Waived by Houston

Houston waived Johnson on Tuesday, Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Johnson appeared in Weeks 4 and 5 but didn't record a target across 28 offensive snaps. Following Houston's Week 6 bye, the wideout found himself as a healthy scratch once again in Week 7 and will now have to look for a new opportunity in 2022. The 2020 fifth-round pick caught 48 of 72 targets for 529 yards and two scores during his first two campaigns in Tampa Bay, but it's unclear what type of attention he'll draw as a free agent.

  • Texans' Tyler Johnson: Not playing Sunday

Johnson (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's contest versus the Raiders, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.

After Johnson took the field for 43 percent of Houston's offensive snaps Week 5 against Jacksonville, the Texans have elected to sit him Sunday following their Week 6 bye. Johnson has yet to see a target in two appearances this season.

  • Texans' Tyler Johnson: Third-highest snap count Week 5

Johnson wasn't targeted over 25 snaps on offense Sunday in Texans' 13-6 win over the Jaguars.

Johnson was active for the second consecutive week and was handed the third-highest snap count among wideouts, moving ahead of Phillip Dorsett on the depth chart. He took the role that would normally go to the inactive Chris Moore (hip). If the Texans don't have to pass, they won't, so targets among the position group are typically scarce and usually go to Brandin Cooks or Nico Collins.

  • Texans' Tyler Johnson: Active for Week 4

Johnson is active for Sunday's game against the Chargers, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.

Johnson has not suited up for a game this season, but he will have a chance to see action Sunday for the first time since being claimed off waivers from the Buccaneers in late August. Johnson will be one of five active Texans receivers, so it's unlikely he will fill a key role even if he does get on the field.

  • Texans' Tyler Johnson: Inactive Sunday

Johnson (coach's decision) is inactive Sunday against the Colts.

Johnson joined the Texans on Aug. 31 after being claimed off waivers from the Buccaneers. The 24-year-old will continue to try to crack the roster on gameday, as he gets more familiar with Houston's playbook.
