Scouting report

This game will pit one of the top offenses in the country in Duke against the best defense in terms of efficiency in Louisville.

Duke's offense is plenty lethal, scoring on 119.9 points per 100 possessions. The ring leader is Luke Kennard, who is enjoying a breakout season with 20.4 points per game. He's a scoring threat from outside and shooting at a ridiculously efficient 44.7 percent from the 3-point line through 17 games.

If Amile Jefferson misses the game, Harry Giles and Marques Bolden will be big factors for Duke down low. However, sophomore Chase Jeter saw the most run against the Florida State Seminoles, as did Jayson Tatum in a small-ball lineup. So keep an eye on Duke staying small and sticking with that, even if it didn't end well against FSU.

Louisville has the No. 1 defense in efficiency and allows just 86.8 points per 100 possessions, according to KenPom. They are No. 1 in the ACC in defensive field goal percentage, and force 7.1 steals per contest. That means the pressure will be on for Grayson Allen, who has taken over a larger role at point guard since returning from a one-game suspension.

Matchups to watch

Duke had a tough time defending Florida State's two 7-footers earlier in the week. Louisville has two of its own: Ray Spalding and Anas Mahmoud. Should Jefferson be out again, the Cardinals could exploit Duke's perceived weakness in the post.

Another matchup to watch is Louisville's dynamic backcourt of Quentin Snider and Donovan Mitchell. Mitchell has a steal rate of 4.2 percent that ranks 30th in the country, according to KenPom. Although Grayson Allen has taken over point guard duties, he's still giving the ball up with 2 turnovers per game -- and 8 in his last two. Louisville's constant pressure will be a big test.

Odds and pick

SportsLine odds: Louisville -5

SportsLine projection: Louisville 73, Duke 71

Pick: Louisville -5

What Florida State was able to do against Duke with Jonathan Isaac and Michael Ojo in the post was impressive. But it was 6-foot-4 point guard Xavier Rathan-Mayes who got the better of the matchup between he and Grayson Allen. Snider is coming off one of his best games all season -- a 22-point explosion against Pitt. He will need to match that output to give the Cards a chance at securing a win over the Blue Devils.
