The top club players from Major League Soccer take on the elite from Liga MX on Wednesday when the 2022 MLS All-Stars host the Liga MX All-Stars in an exhibition match in St. Paul, Minn. The teams faced off in the MLS All-Star Game for the first time last year in Los Angeles. The MLS All-Stars won 3-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw. The American stars faced Chivas Guadalajara of Liga MX in this exhibition way back in 2003 (a 3-1 MLS victory). After a more traditional intraleague match in 2004, the MLS All-Stars took on some of the elite teams of Europe from 2005-19. They beat the likes of Chelsea (twice), Tottenham and Bayern Munich but lost to Manchester United (twice), Arsenal and Real Madrid. They are 9-7 in MLS All-Star games against club teams from other nations. Now, the league is tapping into the natural rivalry that has elevated the USMNT's spirited battles with El Tri to the best matchup in Concacaf.

Kickoff at Allianz Field is set for 8:30 p.m. ET. The latest MLS All-Stars vs. Liga MX All-Stars odds from Caesars Sportsbook list the MLS as the +103 favorite (risk $100 to win $103). Liga MX is a +190 underdog and a draw is priced at +285. The over-under for total goals scored is 3.5. Why you should back the MLS All-Stars

With the game moving from L.A. to the Midwest, the MLS All-Stars should have a much more pronounced home-field advantage. The players also are at full match fitness and in midseason form. Captain Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez and Carlos Vela, both longtime players for the Mexico National Team, have special incentive to earn bragging rights. Both also are still playing at a high level. The 34-year-old Chicharito has nine goals this season for the L.A. Galaxy.

Vela, 33, has seven goals and seven assists with LAFC and will be setting up Sebastian Driussi, who has scored 16 goals for Austin FC. The USMNT will be well-represented in the MLS attack. Paul Arriola has eight goals, 21-year-old FC Dallas teammate Jesus Ferreira has 11 and Jordan Morris has six with Seattle. USMNT stalwart Walker Zimmerman should lead the back line for goalkeepers Sean Johnson of NYCFC (12 clean sheets) and Philadelphia's Andre Blake (10) .

Why you should back the Liga MX All-Stars

The Liga MX All-Stars should be a closer approximation to the best the league has to offer. Half of the American team was chosen by fan vote, while the Liga MX squad was chosen largely from Player of the Year nominees. The Liga MX squad also will be far more rested, as the teams have played eight games or fewer since the new season started last month. And most of the attacking players are young, led by Cruz Azul's 21-year-old Santiago Gimenez, who has five goals in five games this year.

The Liga MX team has plenty of firepower, and it is loaded in midfield. Veteran Julio Furch of Atlas and Juan Dinenno of Pumas had a combined 24 goals and 10 assists in the last campaign. Monterrey's German Berterame has scored three goals already in the new season. Spanish star Alvaro Fidalgo of Club America and Chivas 24-year-old Alexis Vega are among the creative playmakers, and Pachuca's Oscar Ustari (four clean sheets in six games) could get the nod in net.
