His numbers were strong considering he was playing for the Sharks, and while power-play time won't be plentiful in Edmonton, Walman may still be able to put up decent offense.

Oilers' Jake Walman: Heading north in trade
Walman was traded to the Oilers from the Sharks on Thursday in exchange for Carl Berglund and a conditional 2026 first-round pick.
The pick is top-12 protected, and would transfer to 2027 in the unlikely event the Oilers get such a high pick in 2026. If the Oilers deal away their 2027 first-rounder, the 2026 pick would go to the Sharks automatically. Walman bolsters the left side of the Edmonton defense, and he could pair with Evan Bouchard or former Sharks teammate Ty Emberson. Walman has contributed a career-high 32 points over 50 appearances this season as the leader on San Jose's blue line, but his move to a contender will likely lower his ice time and his scoring output, so fantasy managers may want to have a backup plan in place for their defense corps.

Walman is expected to be dealt to the Oilers, but both the Sharks and Oilers are playing Thursday. Additionally, Edmonton's having an injury crisis on defense, so the deal is not expected to be completed immediately -- though it could happen after the games Thursday or at some point Friday. Walman had two assists in a 6-2 win over Buffalo on Tuesday.
His breakout season continues. Walman has 32 points, including 26 helpers, and 125 shots in 50 games this season. His average ice time is up significantly -- more than three minutes a night -- from last season in Detroit (23:11 vs. 19:46). His minus-1 rating is also impressive on a team with a minus-68 goal differential in 2024-25. Walman's career season feels like lightning in a bottle, but at the same time, we can't deny his value right now.

Walman's offense is starting to come back around -- he has three points over his last six outings, and this was his first power-play point since Dec. 17. While the news effectively rules Walmn out versus Vegas on Tuesday, it appears the blueliner is making strides in his recovery. While the Toronto native had just one goal in 10 games prior to getting hurt, he did manage to rack up seven helpers over that stretch, including three with the man advantage.
