  • Jets' David Rittich: Blown away by Hurricanes

Rittich stopped 20 of 24 shots in Tuesday's 5-3 loss to Carolina. Carolina's final goal was scored into an empty net. The Jets never led in the game, as the 'Canes struck early in the first period and never looked back. Rittich hasn't won a game in a month, going 0-3-1 over his last six appearances with a 3.05 GAA and .876 save percentage, and while Connor Hellebuyck has been shaky himself in recent weeks, his backup isn't putting any pressure on him for playing time.

  • Jets' David Rittich: Starting in Carolina

Rittich will defend the road net Tuesday against Carolina, Mitchell Clinton of the Jets' official site reports. Rittich has a 9-6-1 record this season with a 2.57 GAA and a .906 save percentage in 19 appearances. He made 24 saves in a 4-3 overtime win over the Hurricanes on Nov. 21. Rittich's start will give Connor Hellebuyck a bit of a breather after the latter played in back-to-back games over the weekend. Carolina sits 12th in the league this year with 3.28 goals per game.

  • Jets' David Rittich: Falls to Sharks in overtime

Rittich stopped 21 of 24 shots in a 3-2 overtime loss to San Jose on Monday. Connor Hellebuyck posted a 5.12 GAA and an .854 save percentage over three contests from Feb. 28-March 4, and that was the backdrop for Rittich's first start since Feb. 26. The 30-year-old goaltender at least had a better showing than Hellebuyck's recent outings, but it still didn't end well for the Jets. Rittich has a 9-6-1 record, 2.57 GAA and .906 save percentage in 19 contests this season. He hasn't earned a win over his last five outings and has allowed 10 goals on 89 shots over that span.

  • Jets' David Rittich: In goal Monday

Rittich will get the starting nod at home versus the Sharks on Monday, Ken Wiebe of Sportsnet reports. Rittich has come off the bench in two of the team's last five contests plus starting another game. With Connor Hellebuyck struggling, Rittich could be tasked with getting a few more starts down the stretch, including Monday's tilt. An upcoming back-to-back versus the Panthers and Lightning on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, will serve as another chance for Rittich to man the crease.

  • Jets' David Rittich: Needed in relief Friday

Rittich turned aside seven of nine shots in the third period after replacing Connor Hellebuyck during Friday's 6-3 loss to the Oilers. Neither goalie had much luck slowing down Edmonton's high-powered offense, but both the goals Rittich allowed came with Winnipeg down a skater -- one on an Oilers power play, and the other on a delayed penalty call against the Jets. Hellebuyck is in a slump right now, but Rittich has started only one of the last seven games and may not see a whole lot more action as the Jets focus on getting their starter right for the playoffs. If he does begin to cut into Hellebuyck's workload, Rittich could be a solid fantasy option given his 2.55 GAA and .908 save percentage on the season.

Rittich allowed three goals on 23 shots in Sunday's 4-0 loss to the Islanders. • Jets' David Rittich: Plays third period Friday

Rittich stopped all 10 shots he faced in relief of Connor Hellebuyck in the third period of Friday's 5-1 loss to the Avalanche. After an electric first period, things settled down, though the lopsided score prompted a goalie change from head coach Rick Bowness for the third period. Rittich did his job well Friday, and he's allowed just 12 goals over seven appearances (five starts) since the start of January. The 30-year-old is at 9-5-0 with a 2.43 GAA and a .913 save percentage through 16 outings overall. He's showing he can be trusted in some more favorable matchups, which makes him a viable streaming option for fantasy.
