Head coach Paul Maurice said Monday that he assumes Tkachuk (illness) will return to the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Wild, Michael Russo of The Athletic reports. Tkachuk has missed the last five games due to an illness, but the team has remained hopeful that he'd be back in action against Minnesota. He's slated to meet his return timetable, which will provide a significant boost to the Panthers. Over his first two appearances of the season, Tkachuk recorded two assists, seven shots on goal and a plus-2 rating.

  • Panthers' Matthew Tkachuk: Facing one-week absence

Tkachuk (illness) is expected to be sidelined for at least a week with a potential return date of Oct. 22 versus Minnesota, Jameson Olive of the Panthers' official site reports. Tkachuk's absence is a huge blow for the Panthers, with the 26-year-old winger already having missed one game due to illness. Prior to falling ill, the Arizona native managed two assists in the opening two contests but had failed to find the back of the net despite seven shots on goal. Eetu Luostarinen will likely continue to see top-line minutes without Tkachuk in the lineup -- though Carter Verhaeghe could also be in contention to move up the depth chart. Given the length of Tkachuk's expected absence, don't be surprised to see him land on injured reserve in the next few days.

  • Panthers' Matthew Tkachuk: Three points in return from illness

Tkachuk (illness) had a goal and two assists Thursday in a 6-0 victory over the Senators. The goal was a nice redirection in the third off a pass from Aleksander Barkov. It came on the power play. Tkachuk has 32 points on the power play this year, just four off his career high from last season. However, he almost certainly won't hit the century mark in points for a third consecutive season. But considering how he stumbled early in the season, Tkachuk's 83 points in 75 games is remarkable. And there's no better time to be peaking than when the playoffs are closing in.
