The Vikings' position battle at wide receiver is going down to the last preseason game.

The Vikings are trying to determine their depth chart entering Week 1 against Jacksonville. Thursday’s game against Houston will play a big part in those decisions, coach Leslie Frazier said.

“It’s a big game,” Frazier said . “We’re trying to determine depth and also who is going to line up opposite Percy (Harvin) in that first game. And whether or not we need to look outside of what we have to find someone to give us help.”

Frazier said that veteran Michael Jenkins likely won’t play, but second-year WR Stephen Burton and rookie WR Jarius Wright would see a lot of action against the Texans. He also said they will continue to give WR Devin Aromashodu plenty of snaps and take another look at WR Manny Arceneaux.

“Those four will get the brunt of the work,” Frazier said. “We need to get more tape on them and more of an evaluation.”

Frazier said the team would “most likely” keep six wideouts, which includes Jerome Simpson, who is suspended for the first three games of the season. They have seven receivers on the roster, so that means one will likely be cut or retained on the practice squad.

“I don’t know how many starters Houston’s going to play on defense,” Frazier said. “But all of us would like to see one of those (receivers) make some big plays for us down the field or beat man coverage -- and Houston plays a lot of man coverage. It would be good to see if we can find someone who can show that they can separate and wins some one-on-ones, and maybe between those four who are playing we will find that.”
