Last week in San Francisco, the Vikings held out several of their veteran starters to give them a day off and to get a better look at their younger players in live game competition. But this Friday, when the Bills come to the Metrodome to face the Vikings, coach Leslie Frazier said the veterans will get plenty of action.

“Our goal is to try to get those guys at least through the first quarter and maybe through part of the second quarter as well,” Frazier said. “We have a number of plays that we want to get to, and we’ll see how it goes. But we want to get everybody some action before we get to that third preseason game.”

Typically, the starters start and play the first half of the third preseason game and then come out of the locker room and play the first series of the second half, so they acclimate to a game situation. The fourth preseason game is usually left to the reserves while starters rest, so it is important for Frazier to get everyone who hasn’t played onto the field in game situations before the final tuneup in the third game.

Look for players such as DE Jared Allen, DT Kevin Williams, CB Antoine Winfield and WR Percy Harvin, who sat out last week, to get extensive action on Friday night against Buffalo.
