Texans LB Tim Dobbins was “very shocked” after learning he had been fined $30,000 by the NFL for his hit on Bears QB Jay Cutler in Sunday night’s game. Cutler had to leave the game with a concussion, most likely as a result of the hit from Dobbins.

“My assessment is that it’s way too high, and I felt like I didn’t do anything wrong,” Dobbins said. “I’m not a dirty player, and I really can’t do nothing but appeal it at this point.”

The hit occurred late in the second quarter when Cutler escaped the pocket in the middle of the field. He approached the line of scrimmage and tried to dump a pass off to WR Devin Hester. Dobbins leveled Cutler right as he released the ball.

Dobbins was flagged for unnecessary roughness while Cutler was penalized for an illegal forward pass, the referees ruling Cutler had crossed the line of scrimmage before getting the pass off.

“I’m definitely disappointed,” Dobbins said. “I didn’t know if he was going to run the ball or he was going to pass the ball. I felt like he was past the line and then I just went in and I tried to get a clean hit on him. It just didn’t work out, I guess.”

Dobbins said he is appealing the fine but has no idea whether he has a case.

“I felt like it was a clean hit,” Dobbins said. “I looked at the film. It looked like I got a little helmet-to-helmet but I definitely didn’t try to.”

Quick Hits

  • The Texans had several injured players back at practice Wednesday. RB Ben Tate (hamstring), TE Owen Daniels (back) and NT Shaun Cody (ribs/back) all were limited participants.
  • RB Arian Foster isn’t buying that Sunday’s matchup with the Jaguars is a trap game. “I don’t even know who invented that term,” Foster said. “They obviously have never played in the NFL before. Jacksonville is a talented team and we’re focused. We have a goal in mind. The first part of that goal is this Sunday against Jacksonville.”
