CB Walter Thurmond's brief 2012 season officially ended Monday when the Seahawks placed him on injured reserve. Thurmond had been inactive for Seattle's past three games with a hamstring injury and only played in two games this season.

Thurmond, who broke his leg against Cleveland in October 2011, started the 2012 season on IR and missed the first six weeks. The three-year veteran was activated in November and saw his first action in Seattle's Week 13 overtime win over Chicago. Thurmond also saw playing time in the Seahawks' 58-0 Week 14 win over Arizona, but he hasn't been on the field since.

"He kind of retweaked it again last week," coach Pete Carroll said. "And that means it's going to be a couple weeks again."

Thurmond's move to the IR means the Seahawks have an open spot on their 53-man roster for CB Brandon Browner. Browner had been suspended for Seattle's last four games for violating the league's performance enhancing substance policy and was eligible to return to the team Monday. "He's here," Carroll said. "He's worked out real hard. He's going to have fresh legs relative to other guys here 16 games into it."

Before his suspension began on Dec. 9, Browner had started all 12 of the Seahawks' games. Despite the suspension, Browner is tied for the team lead in forced fumbles (3) and is second on the team in interceptions (3).

Practice squad moves: The team also announced the signings of DT Vaughn Meatoga and CB Ron Parker to the practice squad. WR Corbin Louks was released to make room. The Seahawks had two open spots on the practice squad with the release of Louks and the promotion of LB Allen Bradford to the 53-man roster on Dec. 28.
