Stepping up: Wide receiver Adrian Arrington was sharp for the second consecutive day. Arrington, who has been with the Saints since 2008 on either the practice squad or the active roster, finally has a legitimate opportunity to earn playing time with the departure of free agent Robert Meachem in the offseason.

Arrington has nine catches in the regular season -- seven in one game -- and two in the playoffs.

Play of the day: Starting cornerback Patrick Robinson made a terrific interception of a deep pass from Drew Brees to tight end Jimmy Graham. It was the second consecutive day he turned in a highlight play. After getting beaten deep by rookie wideout Nick Toon on Thursday, Robinson made up the ground and slapped the ball out of Toon’s hands just as it arrived.

Not there: Tight end David Thomas sat out with a lower back sprain that coach Joe Vitt said was not serious. Thomas is coming back from two concussions that put him on injured reserve last season.

Quotable: “I think he’s done everything we’ve asked him to do since he’s been here. It’s just been crowded at that spot.” – offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael on Arrington

Indoors: For the second straight day, bad weather forced the Saints to go indoors, allowing them to avoid the brutal heat and humidity of a New Orleans summer. The forecast for Saturday is more bad weather, so it could be a while before fans get to see the team. All indoor workouts are closed to the public.
