Right tackle Jammal Brown was placed on the physically unable to perform list because of his hip, a setback in his quest to finally play healthy in Washington. Brown has missed five games the past two years, including four in 2011, because of various leg issues, including his hip and groin.

Brown also had taken yoga and Pilates classes in the offseason to help loosen tissue in his hip. He had said in the spring that he noticed a difference in his flexibility because of those classes. But he re-injured his hip running earlier this week.

Tyler Polumbus and Maurice Hurt will compete for the starting job until Brown returns.

The Redskins also placed FS Tanard Jackson (calf) and RB Tristan Davis (knee) on the PUP list. Jackson, if healthy, would contend with Madieu Williams for the starting job. They also placed CB Chase Minnifield on injured reserve. Minnifield, coming off microfracture surgery in January, tore the ACL in the same knee on the last day of minicamp.
