Since the Baltimore Ravens drafted offensive lineman Ramon Harewood in the sixth round of the 2010 draft, he has yet to appear in a game or on the 53-man roster.

Injuries to his knees and ankle forced him to spend the 2010 and 2011 seasons on injured reserve. Both times he was placed on IR prior to the season beginning, delaying his goal of playing in the NFL.

This time around, Harewood made it through training camp unscathed and earned a spot on the 53-man roster.

"It's a tremendous feeling," said Harewood, a native of Barbados. "You can see the hard work. I've been at it three years and this is the first time I've made it."

When the preseason opened, Harewood made a list of three goals. The first two -- make it through camp healthy and to make the roster -- have been accomplished. The third is to become a starter, which will be his next challenge to conquer.

Baltimore's deep at offensive line, with veteran G Bobbie Williams being the only new addition to the starting lineup this year. Kelechi Osemele is a backup at left guard and right tackle and has been the most impressive rookie this preseason.

Harewood, a prototypical tackle size-wise at 6-6, 334 pounds, has received reps recently at guard to aid his versatility. Harewood has a shot at earning more playing time this season in Baltimore's uptempo offense if he's able to play multiple positions.

"As (coach John Harbaugh) says, get better one percent every day," Harewood said. "You come in, you do what you need to do and try to improve every single day."

Harewood's hoping to be among the 45 active players on the sideline when Baltimore opens its regular season against Cincinnati on Monday.

Though it's Baltimore's first Monday night game at home since 2007, Harewood's looking at it like a starting point in his career.

"You can go on it being Monday night, or it being the first game of the season," he said. "But for me, my first NFL game is enough and that's all I'm looking to right now. I'm not going past that."
