The Dolphins placed rookie defensive tackle A.J. Francis on waivers hoping they could stash him on their practice squad, according to the Sun-Sentinel. Those plans were foiled Sunday when the Patriots signed Francis to be their fourth defensive tackle.

The paper said Francis, who went undrafted out of Maryland, graded out as the sixth-best defensive lineman in the NFL during the preseason in Pro Football Focus' ratings.
