Lions' rookies reported for training camp Monday, signing his four-year deal before Detroit's workouts began. Financial terms were not disclosed, but multiple reports say Reiff is due to make nearly $8 million over the course of the contract.
Jeff Backus and Gosder Cherilus are the presumptive OT starters entering training camp, but both players have health concerns. Reiff's performance during offseason workouts impressed Lions' coaches, and he'll likely get ample opportunity to earn a starting spot. OC Scott Linehan wouldn't comment on where Reiff fits in the depth chart during Detroit's OTAs, but he did concede that the O-line position battle was far from a foregone conclusion. “Riley’s on track to play a lot of football for us really early,” Linehan said.
Jim Schwartz told reporters during OTAs that he expected to give Reiff reps at multiple positions along the O-line during camp, but the rookie said Monday that he didn't play any position other than tackle during offseason drills. Reiff said he hadn't spoken with coaches about a possible move to guard.
