After saying he would wait in case there was a "000.2% chance" that CB Darrelle Revis could come back from his torn ACL in the event the team was "fortunate enough" to make the Super Bowl, Jets coach Rex Ryan announced on Friday that the team will place Revis on injured reserve, officially ending his 2012 season.

Ryan also said the team will most likely sign a safety within the next day or two. The Jets currently have S Antonio Allen on their practice squad. He was selected in the seventh round of this year's draft.

The Jets need to shore up the safety position as S Eric Smith will be out again, this time with a knee sprain suffered in practice earlier this week. Smith missed the first four games of the season after sustaining a hip and knee injury against the Bengal in the first preseason game.

Other injuries on defense: The defense has several other key injuries, including starting NT Sione Po'uha, who has been battling lower back tightness, and backup NT Kenrick Ellis, who will now be out for as much as 4-6 weeks with an MCL injury. The Jets will likely move people around to compensate in the event that Po'uha can't go on Sunday. He is currently listed as doubtful.

DE Mike DeVito can play on the inside. Rookie DL Damon Harrison has made progress, and the team signed DL Daniel Muir earlier in the week.

The return of Keller and Hill: Ryan said he expects both TE Dustin Keller and WR Stephen Hill to play. Both have had hamstring injuries. Keller missed the last four games, Hill missed the last two.

The Jets hope their return can breathe some life back into what has been an anemic passing game.

Injury update: C Nick Mangold sprained his right ankle on Sunday but expects to play against the Colts. Ryan also said that both WR Santonio Holmes (Lisfranc) and LB Josh Mauga (torn pectoral muscles) underwent surgery this week to repair their injuries. Both were already placed on injured reserve. Ryan expects both to be ready for offseason training.
