If new Bucs coach Greg Schiano is going to hammer home one point during training camp, it's probably that he does not like fumbles

Running back Mossis Madu had the first fumble of training camp on Sunday when the Bucs wore pads for the first time, and Schiano referenced the fumble multiple times after practice.

"We had one ball come out, which that just can't happen," he said. "A ball carrier can not put the ball on the ground, period."

Tampa Bay was tied for second in the league last year in fumbles, putting the ball on the ground 10 times, which is one area where Schiano plans to improve.

Ball security could be one reason that rookie Doug Martin has taken most the first-team reps at running back so far in camp. LeGarrette Blount fumbled nine times in his first two seasons in the league. Blount has changed the way he holds the football -- high and tight, similar to Tiki Barber -- and that has been an emphasis for all four running backs.

"I thought it's been very good, but it doesn't take many to ruin that equation, and we just put the ball on the ground in a one-on-one tackle situation," Schiano said. "Again, you don't want to make it so you get afraid, and guys have to be able to play -- and in the passing game, you have to be able to try and stick it in windows that maybe aren't very big, and we have a quarterback like we do who has a strong arm; you've got to go after it. So there will be some interceptions; I'm not sitting here saying there won't. It's just when you're carrying the football, there's no reason for that ball to come out ever. Ever. If we're going to get turnovers, let's let them be on interceptions where the risk-reward is really great."

CB Wright leaves practice early

Starting cornerback Eric Wright was not able to finish practice on Monday because of an undisclosed injury thought to be a lower-body issue. Wright also left practice early on Saturday. The Bucs are already missing cornerback E.J. Biggers, who injured his foot on Friday, which is likely making them more cautious with Wright.

Anthony Gaitor, Myron Lewis and Leonard Johnson all took reps in Wright's place on Monday.

Bucs roster overhaul

The Tampa Bay Times' Stephen Holder examined the massive overhaul of Tampa's roster. The Bucs have 10 changes in their starting lineup from last season, and only 40 of the 90 players on the current roster were in camp a year ago.

Talib putting past troubles behind him

Cornerback Aqib Talib says he's a changed man since he was dismissed from charges of felony assault with a deadly weapon on June 18. Talib has received guidance from former Bucs linebacker Derrick Brooks and spent the offseason in Tampa concentrating on football instead of returning to his home in Dallas.

Freeman, Jackson forming a connection

Vincent Jackson and Josh Freeman have already developed a good connection. Jackson is expected to give the Bucs a deep threat, taking advantage of Freeman's big arm.

Freeman lost about 20 pounds in the offseason by changing his diet. He told our Pete Prisco that he cut out most of the fast food. Freeman said of his love for Taco Bell: "I used to tear it up."

And now...

"No, you can't quit Taco Bell cold turkey," he said.
