The Miami Dolphins secondary is becoming a primary concern.

The unit was torched in a 35-13 win over Oakland. Raiders QB Carson Palmer shredded the group, completing 24 of 48 passes for 373 yards and a touchdown. Safety Reshad Jones did have the team’s first interception of the season, but the cornerback position is very thin.

Starters Sean Smith (hip) and Richard Marshall (hamstring) both missed time against Oakland due to injury. Nickelback Nolan Carroll was forced into a more prominent role while S Jimmy Wilson moved wide to help fill the gaps.

The results weren’t pretty, but both Smith and Marshall hope to be ready to go against the New York Jets on Sunday.

"I kept going and trying to fight through it but it just got tighter and tighter and got to the point where I couldn't go," Marshall told the South Florida Sun Sentinel. "It's loosened up now and I have my flexibility back, so I should be ready to go next week."

Before anyone points to the team’s preseason trade of CB Vontae Davis to Indianapolis for a second and conditional sixth-round draft pick, they should take a closer look at his performance through two weeks.

Opponents have completed 10 of 11 passes against Davis this season for 145 yards and two touchdowns. That’s also known as a perfect QB rating.

Ireland slips: Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland sparked his team’s fan base this week -- just not the way he wanted.

The embattled GM was posing for pictures and shaking hands with fans at Sun Life Stadium during Sunday’s 35-13 win over Oakland when one shouted he “needed to fire himself.” Ireland responded by swearing at the fan and calling him an “ass----.”

"It did happen at halftime and I was going back to my booth after seeing my wife and I did talk to several fans that were very nice,” Ireland told the Miami Herald. “But as I'm walking back, this guy introduces himself to me and says I should fire myself.

"It caught me off guard. I just turned and walked away, but I did say the word. I regret I used the word I used. I thought I was using it under my breath. I guess I kind of said it loud enough that he could hear it. I literally said it under my breath. At the time, I felt I handled the situation pretty good. Probably muttered it a little too loud. I regret that I said anything."
