The Chiefs signed first-round draft pick Dontari Poe on Thursday, just in time for the start of training camp on Friday in St. Joseph, Mo.
Poe was the only rookie on Kansas City's roster unsigned and for the first time since 2006, the Chiefs will have all their rookies report to camp on time.
Poe agreed to a four-year deal with a fifth-year option. As training camp approached, it was looking like Poe would report late. Poe, however, has made it a priority to participate in every team activity and did not miss an OTA or minicamp practice.
"I'm here to play football, so I'm doing that side of it," Poe told KCChiefs.com's Josh Looney during June’s minicamp. "I'll leave [the contract] up to the other people to do that, so I'm just doing what I'm here to do."
Poe's signing means the rookie from Memphis should have a chance to compete as a starter at defensive tackle, where his top competition is second-year DT Jerrell Powe.
