Buccaneers cornerback C.J. Wilson is "voluntarily retiring" from the NFL after he lost two fingers in a fireworks incident earlier this month, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Wilson still hopes to play football again, but that will have to wait for his hand to heal. Tampa Bay will still own his rights.

Wilson played a total of four games over the last two seasons with the Bucs and Bears.

The 25-year-old will be placed on the "reserve-retired" list by the organization, so he can come out of retirement at a later time.
