Believe it or not, the Buffalo Bills are right back in the thick of the playoff race after a gutsy 19-16 overtime win over the Arizona Cardinals.

That prospect would have seemed unthinkable with the Bills coming off two of their worst losses in recent memory. But the Bills now sit at 3-3 -- along with each of their division rivals in the AFC East.

The mood was decidedly upbeat in Buffalo’s locker room Monday.

“We didn’t get carried away with our record -- of course we wanted to play better in those two games that we lost, but we didn’t,” RB C.J. Spiller said. “But the good thing about this team is that we kept believing in each and every man in this locker room and were able to put those losses behind us and prepare for the next opponent. And we’ll do the same thing with this win.”

“I think everybody understands exactly where we are at this point and we have to take care of our business,” coach Chan Gailey said. “That’s the key to this whole thing -- it really doesn’t matter where anybody else is. You go take care of your own business ... it’s still early."

Injury update: DL Spencer Johnson (ankle) and RG Kraig Urbik (ankle) have a chance of returning in the near future, Gailey said Monday. LT Cordy Glenn (ankle) is the furthest away from returning among Buffalo’s injured players.

Brooks to return to practice Wednesday: Rookie CB Ron Brooks (IR, foot) was listed as “designated to return” as part of the NFL’s new injured-reserve rule. Brooks is allowed to return to practice after six weeks and can be activated after eight weeks.

S Howell returns: S Delano Howell was re-signed to the roster Monday. Howell has served as the team’s fourth safety for much of the year but was released last week due to injuries at other positions. To make room for Howell and DE Shawne Merriman , DT Jay Ross and OL David Snow were released.
