The way 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith left Friday’s game vs. the Vikings (on a cart) and the way he left the locker room following San Francisco’s 17-6 win (clutching two canes), you could be forgiven if you were worried about the second-year player’s outlook for the rest of training camp with what appears to be a hip injury.

Considering he’s coming off a rookie season in which he recorded 14 sacks, Smith is once again set to play an important role on Jim Harbaugh’s defense as the 49ers try to become Super Bowl contenders. So yeah, this was a potential problem.

Fortunately for 49ers supporters, it sounds like everything might be OK. Just ask Aldon Smith himself.

And if you need more confirmation, here are Harbaugh’s thoughts.

“Still waiting,” Harbaugh said, via Rapid Reporter Kyle Bonagura. “Preliminary, looks like we’ll be alright. Looks like we dodged a bullet there.”

Midway through the first quarter, Smith was injured while trying to tackle Vikings running Toby Gerhart. He stayed in the game for one more play before exiting the contest for the rest of the night.

If Smith misses time, look for Parys Haralson to get more snaps at outside linebacker.
