CB Chris Houston was the biggest name among the six Lions who missed the open portion of Wednesday’s practice, which was held outdoors in 33-degree temperatures to help the team prepare for the unpleasant weather conditions they expect to face at Lambeau Field against the Packers on Sunday.

Houston didn’t miss any meaningful playing time against the Colts in Week 13, but he appeared to be limping near the end of the game. It’s possible that he reaggravated an ankle injury that has bothered him all season.

CB Jacob Lacey (knee/foot) and S Louis Delmas (knee) also weren’t able to participate in Wednesday’s open practice periods. Delmas will likely see very little practice time this week in an attempt to keep him fresh for Sunday, and Lacey could also be placed on a reduced practice plan. Both players will likely be available against the Packers, but the fact that they won’t be at full strength against Aaron Rodgers and the Packers’ potent offense is worrisome for Detroit.

T Gosder Cherilus was the only offensive lineman to miss open drill periods. Cherilus has battled knee issues throughout his career, so it’s likely that his absence is due to scheduled rest.

DE Lawrence Jackson and DT Corey Williams sat out the portion of practice that media could observe. Jackson wasn’t listed on the injury report before the Lions’ loss to the Colts, so the reason for his absence is unknown. Williams remains on a reduced practice plan to limit wear and tear on his injured knee.

The team also announced that WR Lance Long was signed to the 53-man roster to replace WR Titus Young, who was placed on injured reserve on Tuesday. Long spent training camp with the Lions before he was released as part of the team’s final roster cuts.
