Freddie Gillespie: Continuing career overseas
Gillespie signed a two-year contract with German club FC Bayern Munich on Monday.
The 6-foot-9 center will try his luck overseas after he split time between the NBA and the G League over his first two professional seasons. Gillespie appeared in 20 games with the Raptors in 2020-21 and nine games with the Magic in 2021-22, averaging 4.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in 17.6 minutes per contest between the two clubs.

The Magic didn't re-sign Gillespie after his 10-day contract expired Monday, Keith Smith of Spotrac.com reports.
Over the course of his pair of 10-day deals with Orlando, Gillespie appeared in nine games and averaged 2.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in 13.3 minutes. Since the Magic haven't placed any corresponding players in the COVID-19 health and safety protocols in recent days, the team won't receive a roster exemption from the NBA allowing the team to keep Gillespie around. The big man is expected to report back to the G League's Memphis Hustle.

Gillespie made a spot start Saturday against Detroit and will return to the bench after putting up two points (1-3 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 0-1 FT), two rebounds, two assists and one block in 14 minutes. He could still see some run off the bench with Wendell Carter (hamstring) out, though it will be Chuma Okeke who receives the start.

Gillespie moved into the starting lineup Thursday but managed to do absolutely nothing with the opportunity. The Magic are very thin in the frontcourt right now but should receive some respite soon with both Mo Bamba and Robin Lopez inching towards a return. Until then, perhaps Gillespie can stick in the starting lineup but as we saw here, there is no reason to get too excited.

Gillespie is signing a 10-day hardship deal with the Orlando Magic, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
The Baylor product played 20 games with the Raptors last season and now will be playing in Orlando as the Magic deal with their COVID situation. Gillespie began the season with the Memphis Hustle and averaged 11.4 points and 12.2 rebounds per game over his first 12 appearances with the G League club. A major role for the 6-foot-9 big should not be expected, but if more Orlando players continue to be placed into health and safety protocols, coach Jamahl Mosley may be forced to hand Gillespie a larger-than-expected role.
