Hoerner had cooled off a bit at the plate coming into Wednesday's contest, batting .179 (7-for-39) over his last 10 games, though he does have two homers in that span. He's still slashing a solid .285/.336/.395 with four home runs, 26 RBI and 30 runs scored through 217 plate appearances this season.

Neither team generated a ton of offense, but Hoerner sparked the Cubs' win from the leadoff spot. The infielder is now batting .295 this season despite entering this game in a mini 1-for-11 slump, and he has scored 27 runs in 40 games. So long as Hoerner is healthy and sitting atop the order, he should continue to produce strong fantasy numbers the rest of the way.

Hoerner took part in other drills over the weekend, but the fact that he's already doing some baserunning less than a week after suffering a left hamstring strain is a good sign. He's eligible to return from the 10-day injured list Friday and would seem to have a realistic shot to be ready to go on that day.

A hamstring strain interrupted a strong start to the season for Hoerner, who's hitting .303/.348/.395 through 35 games while stealing 12 bases. The Cubs haven't announced a specific date for his return, but the fact that he's able to perform a wide variety of activities despite hitting the injured list just one day prior seemingly gives him a shot at a minimum-length stay. Christopher Morel and Nick Madrigal have spent time at second base in his absence.
