Suarez tossed two scoreless frames Monday versus the Rangers in his Cactus League debut after overcoming a dead arm phase, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
Suarez has been behind other starters in Angels' camp while battling through dead arm issues, but it looks like he's over the hump. The left-hander currently appears on the outside looking in for a spot in the Halos' rotation, but he's out of options, so he could settle into a long relief role initially.
Suarez will make $925,000 in 2024 after losing his arbitration case to the Angels on Friday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
Suarez had an 8.29 ERA across 33.2 innings last season and was in his first year of arbitration eligibility. The 26-year-old lefty posted a 3.86 ERA in 45 appearances (34 starts) during the 2021-22 campaigns, and he'll likely need to get back to that form to have a chance of working out of the rotation regularly in 2024.

Suarez recently kicked off the rehab stint and made two appearances for the Angels' ACL club, allowing one run on five hits and two walks while striking out four batters over a combined 3.1 innings. However, he'll now take a step back due to the setback with his shoulder. Angels manager Phil Nevin indicated that the organization isn't concerned that Suarez will need to be held out for a long period, though it's not yet clear when the southpaw will begin throwing again.

Suarez last pitched for the Angels on May 7, when he departed his start against Texas after 2.2 frames with left shoulder discomfort. He was moved to the 60-day IL on June 20 but recently began throwing to hitters before taking part in the ACL game Tuesday. Per MLB.com, Suarez will make another rehab start Sunday, this time with a full-season affiliate. Suarez left Sunday's start in the second inning after feeling soreness in his left shoulder, and the MRI revealed the inflammation after he was placed on the injured list Monday. The shutdown will cause him to miss the rest of May and the start of June, but the positive news is it doesn't appear he'll need surgery and should be an option for the Angels for the second half of the 2023 campaign at the very least.
