It remains an open question as to whether Jacob Misiorowski will ever throw enough strikes to be a big-league starter. The 6-foot-7 righty's stuff is not in question, particularly his upper-90s fastball and devastating slider, both of which are 70-grade pitches at their best. Misiorowski logged a 3.50 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, 105 strikeouts and 50 walks in 79.2 innings across 19 starts at Double-A before he worked primarily as a reliever over 17.2 innings at Triple-A to close the year. If Milwaukee thought Misiorowski was ready to be a major postseason weapon, he likely would have been added to the 40-man roster in September, but that move was never made. He actually made progress last season at Double-A, as he had eight starts with three or more walks in his first 10 starts and two starts with three or more walks in his next nine starts -- his only two 10-strikeout starts also came in that June/July run of improvement. Misiorowski still has a faint chance of making it as a rare starter who is good for 200-plus strikeouts per year, but a future in high-leverage bullpen situations is probably more likely at this point.

    Misiorowski gave up one earned run over 6.1 innings for Double-A Biloxi on Saturday. He allowed two hits and posted a 10:2 K:BB in the contest. The 6.1 innings were a career high for Misiorowski, and the 10 punchouts were the most he has recorded in a game this season. Walks have been an issue for Misiorowski, but he has issued just five free passes in 20.1 innings over his last four starts, and that no doubt has contributed to the 2.21 ERA and 0.79 WHIP he has posted over that span.

    Misiorowski threw six scoreless innings in a game with Double-A Biloxi on Wednesday. He allowed one hit and posted a 5:0 K:BB in the contest. Misiorowski was tagged for a season-high six earned runs in his previous outing, but he bounced back in fine fashion by blanking his latest opponent while tossing a season-high six frames. Misiorowski has issued at least three free passes in eight of his 13 starts this season, but he is showing some improvement there, having walked only three total batters over his last three trips to the mound.

    Misiorowski threw five scoreless innings in a game with Double-A Biloxi on Sunday. He allowed two hits and posted an 8:4 K:BB in the contest. Misiorowski was tagged for four earned runs over 4.1 innings in his first start of the season, but he has allowed only three runs in 19.0 innings since, and since the start of that stretch he owns a 1.42 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 29:14 K:BB. The walk rate and a handful of wild pitches over the same span indicate the control could use some work, but opposing hitters are having trouble making contact against one of Milwaukee's top pitching prospects.

  • Brewers' Jacob Misiorowski: Resumes throwing

    Misiorowski (arm) has resumed a throwing program, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Misiorowski didn't make an appearance after Aug. 15 due to right arm fatigue, but it would appear he's moved past that. The 21-year-old was one of the biggest pitching prospect breakouts in all of the minors in 2023, collecting a 3.41 ERA and 110:42 K:BB over 71.1 innings between Low-A Carolina, High-A Wisconsin and Double-A Biloxi. It's possible he could push to debut at some point in 2024 if he stays healthy and continues to progress.

    Misiorowski was promoted Tuesday from Low-A Carolina to High-A Wisconsin, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Misiorowski earned the promotion after delivering a 3.04 ERA, 0.83 WHIP and 46 strikeouts through 26.2 innings (nine starts) this season in the Carolina League. Selected in the second round of the 2022 MLB Draft, the fast-rising 21-year-old is the highest-rated pitching prospect in the Brewers' system.

Misiorowski has been brought along slowly in his first full professional season, but he has steadily built up his innings, and his last two outings showed why he is thought of highly by prospect evaluators. Misiorowski turned 21 years old in April, so he will have a chance to move up the ranks at some point this summer.
