  • Brewers' Tyler Black: Returns to Triple-A

The Brewers optioned Black to Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday.

After being called up from Nashville last Tuesday, Black got a look in a near-everyday role, starting in five of the Brewers' ensuing seven games. However, the 23-year-old managed just five hits while striking out eight times in 22 at-bats in his first taste of the big leagues, prompting the Brewers to pull the plug on him with Christian Yelich (back) returning from the 10-day injured list Wednesday. Black should continue to see regular playing time at Nashville and will likely be one of the top options for a call-up if the Brewers need an extra corner infielder at any point.

  • Brewers' Tyler Black: Filling bench role Monday

Black is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Royals.

After being called up from Triple-A Nashville last Tuesday, Black worked in a reserve role for his MLB debut that day but proceeded to start at first base or designated hitter in each of the Brewers' subsequent four contests. Black went 2-for-15 with seven strikeouts over those four starts, but the Brewers will likely give him some more time to right the ship as an everyday player, at least against right-handed pitching. The lefty-hitting Black will hit the bench against Royals southpaw Cole Ragans on Monday.

  • Brewers' Tyler Black: Tallies two hits in debut

Black went 2-for-4 and scored a run during Tuesday's win over Tampa Bay.

Black was not in the Brewers' starting lineup Tuesday, but he ended up serving as the designated hitter for most of the game after Gary Sanchez (hamstring) was removed from the game in the first inning. Black doubled and singled in his first two MLB at-bats, and he was able to score his first run in the big leagues thanks to a fifth-inning Willy Adames homer. The 23-year-old infielder will likely see the field most often versus right-handed starters, though he showed he can hold his own against lefties Tuesday, as both of his hits Tuesday came off of southpaws.

  • Brewers' Tyler Black: Officially promoted

The Brewers selected Black's contract from Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday.

After slashing .303/.393/.525 across 117 plate appearances this season at Triple-A, Black will officially come up from the minors to give the Brewers an additional option at first and third base. He will not start Tuesday's game against the Rays, as Rhys Hoskins and Joey Ortiz will get the nod at those respective positions against left-hander Tyler Alexander. However, the lefty-hitting Black figures to challenge Jake Bauers for starts at first base against right-handed starters. In order to make room for Black on the active roster, Owen Miller was optioned to Nashville and Wade Miley (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day injured list.

  • Brewers' Tyler Black: Expected to be called up

The Brewers are expected to add Black to the roster prior to Tuesday's game against the Rays, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports.

Black got off to a sluggish start at Triple-A Nashville this season but was hitting .328/.425/.612 with five home runs and three stolen bases across his last 17 games. The 23-year-old has plenty of past experience at second and third base but has been used almost exclusively at first base this season. That would seem to point to Black mostly being a threat to Jake Bauers' playing time, although it's possible the Brewers will use Black some at third base, too. Black hit 18 homers and stole 55 bases between Double-A Biloxi and Nashville in 2023 and should be scooped up in most fantasy formats where he's available.

  • Brewers' Tyler Black: Picking up the pace

Black went 12-for-30 (.400) with two triples, two home runs, nine RBI, two steals and a 5:3 BB:K over his last seven games with Triple-A Nashville.

Black posted just a .684 OPS over his first 12 appearances of the season, but thanks to his hot streak that mark now sits at .902. A call-up seemingly is not imminent with the 23-year-old not yet on the 40-man roster and the Brewers getting adequate production at the corner infield spots. However, he remains one of Milwaukee's better prospects and owns a .928 OPS since reaching the Triple-A level in August of 2023.

  • Brewers' Tyler Black: Sent to minor-league camp

The Brewers reassigned Black to minor-league camp Tuesday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Black entered camp seemingly with a shot to win a wide-open competition at third base, but that job looks as though it could go to Joey Ortiz to begin the season. The top prospect could still get a look with the big club sooner rather than later if he can get off to a nice start at Triple-A Nashville.

  • Brewers' Tyler Black: Busy this spring

Black is 4-for-17 (.235) with four runs, two steals and a 2:5 BB:K through six games this spring.

Black is one of Milwaukee's top prospects and posted a .942 OPS over 39 games with Triple-A Nashville last season, and though, he has not hit like that this spring, he is getting opportunities, as his 17 at-bats are tied for third among players in big-league camp with the Brewers. He spent most of his time at third base in 2023, but per the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the bulk of his action this spring has come at first base. The Brewers have a lot of options in the infield, and he faces an uphill battle to break camp with the big club. However, he has one of the more potent bats of the bunch, and he will continue getting chances to work his way into the mix.
