  • Phillies' Brandon Marsh: Returns to lineup

Marsh (finger) will start in center field and bat ninth in Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Tigers.

The broken blood vessel in Marsh's left middle finger will only end up costing him one full day of action. It's been a rather slow spring so far for Marsh -- he's batting .216 with 13 strikeouts in 37 at-bats -- but the expectation remains that he will be at least a strong-side platoon outfielder for Philadelphia to begin the 2023 season.

  • Phillies' Brandon Marsh: Breaks blood vessel in finger

Phillies manager Rob Thompson announced that Marsh broke a blood vessel in his left middle finger, but he is expected to play in Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Tigers, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

The injury occurred Tuesday, but given the outfielder is expected to return to action for Thursday's contest with Detroit, it appears the issue isn't very serious. In his first spring training with the Phillies, Marsh has slashed .216/.341/.351 with one home run and one stolen base over 44 plate appearances.

Marsh was one of only three baserunners on the night for the Phillies, as they were no-hit by the Houston pitching staff. The 24-year-old was able to steal second off pitcher Cristian Javier in the third inning, his 11th steal on the year in 15 attempts. The 0-for-2 performance brings his postseason average down to .194 over 36 at bats. Marsh is 1-for-3 with a double and three walks in his career against projected Game 5 starter Justin Verlander.

Marsh took Lance McCullers deep to make the score 4-0 in the second inning, hitting the third of five Phillies homers on the night. The 24-year-old came into Game 3 with just five hits and 14 K's over 31 at bats in the postseason, so it was a pleasant surprise for the Phillies that he was a productive source of offense. Marsh is now hitting .206 with two homers and five RBI in the playoffs. For his career, he is 4-for-7 with a double against projected Game 4 starter Cristian Javier.
