  • Cubs' Jameson Taillon: Struggles in no-decision

Taillon allowed four runs on six hits across 4.2 innings and didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 8-5 loss to the Reds. He walked one and struck out five.

For the fifth straight start, Taillon failed to complete five innings, and he's allowed four earned runs or more in four consecutive outings. On the heels of another poor showing, the righty is now sitting on an 8.04 ERA overall, and while he's been the victim of some bad luck (.378 BABIP, 48.9 percent strand rate), Taillon hasn't helped himself by serving his pitches up on a platter for hitters. According to, Taillon ranks in the 13th percentile among all pitchers in barrel rate allowed (career-worst 11.7 percent, up from 8.3 percent in 2022).

  • Cubs' Jameson Taillon: Another poor outing

Taillon (0-3) took the loss Saturday, allowing eight runs (six earned) on six hits and three walks over 2.1 innings against the Phillies. He struck out one.

Taillon served up a season-high six earned runs and has given up multiple runs in four straight outings since returning from the injured list. During that stretch, he's surrendered more runs (19) than innings pitched (12.2) and has an 11:6 K:BB. If he continues on this trend, another stint on the injured list may be in the cards, but for now, he's projected to pitch again during the finale of a three-game set versus the Mets.

  • Cubs' Jameson Taillon: Coughs up four runs

Taillon allowed four runs on seven hits and a walk over 4.2 innings in Monday's loss to Houston. He struck out one and did not factor in the decision.

Taillon got off to a rocky start Monday, yielding all four runs in the first inning. He gave up five hits in the frame, including a two-run double by Jose Abreu. Taillon then settled in for 3.2 scoreless innings to limit the damage. His ERA jumped to 6.66 with a 26:7 K:BB through 24.1 frames. He's projected to take the mound in Philadelphia this weekend.

  • Cubs' Jameson Taillon: Doesn't last long Tuesday

Taillon allowed four runs on five hits across 2.2 innings and did not factor into the decision Tuesday against the Cardinals. He walked two and struck out five.

The five strikeouts are the only positive here, as Taillon otherwise struggled mightily before getting pulled after tossing 69 pitches. The righty has gone a total of 5.2 innings in two starts since returning from the injured list May 4, and his ERA now sits at an ugly 6.41. This certainly isn't what the Cubs had in mind when they paid Taillon $68 million over four years in the offseason. He'll look to get on track in his next start, which should come early next week against Houston.

  • Cubs' Jameson Taillon: No-decision in return

Taillon didn't factor in the decision during Thursday's loss to the Nationals after he allowed three runs on three hits and no walks over three innings. He struck out four.

The 31-year-old was sidelined the past couple weeks by a groin strain, but he rejoined Chicago's rotation Thursday and threw just 42 pitches. The only damage against him came via a three-run homer by Lane Thomas during the second inning. Taillon returned from the injured list without a minor-league rehab assignment, so he should remain on a limited workload for his next couple starts as he builds back up his arm.

  • Cubs' Jameson Taillon: Starting Thursday

Taillon (groin) will be activated from the 15-day injured list and start Thursday against the Nationals, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Cubs manager David Ross dismissed the idea of a Thursday return for Taillon on Monday, but he seems to have changed his mind. The 31-year-old righty will skip a rehab stint and make his first appearance since landing on the injured list with a left groin strain April 20. Taillon holds a 4.50 ERA and 1.36 WHIP through 14 innings this season.

  • Cubs' Jameson Taillon: Activated for Thursday's start

Taillon (groin) was activated from the 15-day injured list by the Cubs on Thursday, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Taillon will rejoin the Cubs' rotation Thursday versus the Nationals after missing the last two weeks with a strained left groin. The big right-hander will be skipping a rehab assignment, so it's possible he won't be ready for a full workload.

  • Cubs' Jameson Taillon: Possible for Thursday return?

Cubs manager David Ross was noncommittal Wednesday when asked whether Taillon (groin) might be activated to start Thursday versus the Nationals, Joe Trezza of reports.

Ross ruled out the idea Monday, but that was before Taillon threw a successful 45-pitch simulated game Tuesday in Washington. "Oh, I don't know," the skipper said Wednesday at Nationals Park. "We'll see." Taillon, 31, has been on the injured list since April 20 because of a left groin strain.

  • Cubs' Jameson Taillon: Throws simulated game

Taillon (groin) threw a 45-pitch simulated game Tuesday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

It might have been the final step of side work for Taillon before he is cleared to embark on a minor-league rehab assignment, though there's also a chance that he is allowed to skip a rehab stint altogether. The 31-year-old right-hander landed on the injured list April 20 because of a left groin strain. Caleb Kilian filled his rotation spot last week before getting optioned back to Triple-A Iowa.
