Mets' David Robertson: Secures first save of 2023
Robertson picked up the save in Thursday's 5-3 victory over the Marlins. He struck out two in a perfect inning of work.
Manager Buck Showalter said earlier this week that he would not name a closer going into the 2023 season, but he acknowledged Robertson's experience and leaned on that experience in the Mets' first save chance of the new season. Robertson, who now has 158 career saves, got the job done on 16 pitches, nailing down the win for Max Scherzer. Garrett Cooper and Jazz Chisholm went down swinging against Robertson before Jorge Soler flew out to right field to end the game.

Mets' David Robertson: No locked-in closer for NYM
Mets manager Buck Showalter said Wednesday that he will not name a closer going into the start of the 2023 season, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Showalter did specifically mention Robertson as having the "strongest background" for the job, but Adam Ottavino, Brooks Raley and Drew Smith are also expected to receive ninth-inning looks as the Mets sort out their bullpen blueprint in the absence of Edwin Diaz (knee). Robertson, who boasts 157 career major-league saves, pitched to a 2.40 ERA with 81 strikeouts in 63.2 innings last year between the Cubs and Phillies. He's probably the best option to bet on from an early-season fantasy perspective.

Mets' David Robertson: Could be in line for save chances
Robertson and Brooks Raley are viewed as the primary options for saves for the Mets while Edwin Diaz (knee) is sidelined, Andy Martino of SNY.tv reports.
Official word on Diaz won't be available until sometime after his MRI on Thursday, but the Mets are bracing for their star closer to be out for a significant period of time. Robertson would be a natural choice to slide into the ninth inning, having saved 20 games while posting a 2.40 ERA over 58 appearances for the Cubs and Phillies last season. He and Raley are both worthy of being selected in fantasy leagues -- pending news on Diaz -- with Robertson probably the favorite.

Mets' David Robertson: Bolsters Mets' bullpen
Robertson signed a one-year, $10 million contract with the Mets on Thursday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Robertson missed the entirety of 2020 and the majority of the 2021 season due to Tommy John surgery. However, he returned to good health in 2022 with 63.2 innings and tallied 20 saves while splitting the season between the Cubs and Phillies. He won't be in line for save opportunities with the Mets barring an injury to Edwin Diaz, though Robertson will be a proven setup option in a bullpen that is otherwise lacking high-leverage relievers.

Phillies' David Robertson: Earns shaky save in Game 1
Robertson pitched a scoreless ninth inning and earned the save Friday night during Game 1 of the World Series, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out two in the 6-5 win over the Astros.
Robertson received his first save opportunity of the postseason, and he nearly allowed the Astros to steal the win. After striking out leadoff man Yordan Alvarez, Robertson found himself with the tying run at third and the winning run at second. After three straight balls to Aledmys Diaz, the 37-year-old was able to work back and force a groundout to secure the 1-0 series lead. This was Robertson's 21st save of the season in his 29th opportunity. Despite some shakinesses in the postseason, Robertson has allowed just one run in 4.2 innings and remains a solid option out of the Philadelphia bullpen.

Phillies' David Robertson: Struggles in Game 2
Robertson (calf) recorded two outs during Wednesday's 8-5 loss to the Padres in Game 2 of the NLCS, allowing one run on three hits and zero walks.
Robertson made his first appearance since Game 1 of the wild-card round, when he'd suffered a calf injury. The 37-year-old righty showed signs of rust, as he surrendered a long home run to Manny Machado to lead off the seventh and was only able to record two outs before being pulled by manager Rob Thomson. On a more positive note, Robertson has largely gotten a handle on the control issues that plagued him over the final 11.2 innings in the regular season, when he issued 11 walks -- he's yet to hand out a free pass to any of the eight batters he's faced thus far this postseason.

Phillies' David Robertson: Good to go
Robertson (calf) has made the Phillies' NLCS roster.
Robertson strained his right calf while jumping in the air to celebrate a homer during the wild-card round. The injury was serious enough to keep him off the roster during the NLDS against Atlanta, but his teammates managed to win the series without him, buying him time to return. He'll give the Phillies another option to deploy in the late innings.

Phillies' David Robertson: Earns 20th save
Robertson picked up the save Tuesday in Miami, retiring the side in order in the ninth inning of a 2-1 win.
Robertson made quick work of the heart of Miami's lineup, getting a flyout and two groundouts to end the game. It was his 20th save of the season and sixth since joining the Phillies. He's recorded saves in consecutive games but Philadelphia will likely continue to spread the save chances around its corps of relievers down the stretch.

Robertson struck out the side in a perfect inning to earn a save over the Phillies on Sunday.
After blowing a save in his last outing, Robertson bounced back with a dominant performance Sunday. He lowered his season ERA to 2.38 with a 75:28 K:BB while converting 19 of his 26 save chances. Seranthony Dominguez (triceps) returned from the injured list Sunday and pitched the eighth inning.
