Vance Worley

Phillies right-hander Vance Worley was supposed to make his next start on Wednesday against the Cubs. However, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports that Worley has been scratched from that start because of elbow soreness. He hasn't accompanied the team to Chicago, and he'll be examined further on Wednesday. “I’m not worried," Worley said of the news. "I just want to confirm what it is. That’s all.”

Kyle Kendrick will start in place of Worley, and, if a move is necessary, then Joe Savery will likely replace him on the active roster.

While Worley gets easily overlooked as a member of the same rotation as Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee and Cole Hamels, it should not be forgotten that Worley boasts a career ERA of 2.91 in 188.1 innings. If he's lost for a significant amount of time, it'll be a blow to the already hobbled Phillies.

On another level, while panic would be premature, the only thing worse than having a pitcher's elbow make the news is having his shoulder make the news.
