The Seattle Mariners announced Wednesday they have declined catcher Miguel Olivo's $3-million option for 2013 and released shortstop Munenori Kawasaki.

Olivo, who was bought out of his 2013 option for $750,000, hit .222/.239/.381 with 12 home runs in 323 plate appearances this season. His .239 OBP ranked dead last for hitters with at least 300 plate appearances this year. He played 73 games at catcher for the team, making 68 starts, and 12 games (all starts) at designated hitter.

Kawasaki made his major league debut April 7 at the age of 30 after playing in Japan his entire professional career. He hit .192/.257/.202 in 115 plate appearances this year.
