Top-ranked Jon Rahm comes into the 2023 Mexico Open in a much different place than he was last year, when he won his only tournament of the PGA Tour season. The Spaniard has won four times already in 2022-23, including the Masters, and the Mexico Open 2023 field is even weaker this time around. Tony Finau (No. 16) is the only other top-40 golfer set to tee up Thursday on Vidanta Vallarta's Norman Signature course. Only eight of the top 100 will be in action. Several major champions, including 2019 U.S. Open winner Gary Woodland and 2018 Open champ Francesco Molinari will join the likes of Wyndham Clark, Maverick McNealy and Taylor Pendrith in the 2023 Mexico Open field.

Caesars Sportsbook has Rahm priced as the clear +290 favorite in its latest 2023 Mexico Open odds. Finau is the second choice at +850, well ahead of third favorite Clark (+2100). They are the only golfers shorter than 30-1. Woodland (+3200), Nicolai Hojgaard (+3400), McNealy (+3400), Patrick Rodgers (+3600) and Alex Noren (+3700) are also expected to be among the top contenders in this 2023 Mexico Open field. Before making any 2023 Mexico Open picks, be sure you check out the PGA Tour predictions and best bets from SportsLine golf insider Sia Nejad.

Nejad specializes in betting and DFS in golf, among other sports. He's had incredible success in the outright and first-round leader markets and betting head-to-head matchups. In 2022, he hit six first-round leaders in a 12-week span while peppering in tournament outrights throughout the year.

In 2023, Sportsline debuted "The Early Wedge," and in the first three months of the show, he hit two FRLs and three outright winners. Nejad also had a winning head-to-head record in eight of 10 weeks (including full tournament sweeps on head-to-head plays). He was up more than 70 units over that three-month span.

Now, Nejad has studied the 2023 Mexico Open field and has locked in his best bets, top sleepers and favorites to avoid. You can head to SportsLine now to see all of Nejad's PGA picks and analysis.

Top 2023 Mexico Open expert picks

Shockingly, Nejad is fading McNealy, who is one of the field's most notable players and among the favorites. The former Stanford star appears to have recovered from a shoulder injury that kept him from playing at Pebble Beach and Phoenix, but his game has been ailing. McNealy has three top-10 finishes in 14 events this season, and the most recent came at the Sony Open in January. Nejad says "he's simply not a good course fit," as the Norman layout at Vidanta requires excellence with the driver. McNealy ranks 168th in strokes gained off the tee and 145th in total driving.

On the other hand, Rahm has been dominant in all phases, and Nejad will keep a keen eye on him all week. The price is too steep to back the Spaniard outright, but if he gets off to a slow start, there should be value on him in live betting. Rahm is a perfect fit for most courses, but his power should set him apart at Vidanta. He is 14th in driving distance and 11th in total driving.  The 28-year-old is second on approaches from more than 200 yards and leads the tour in strokes gained total and scoring average (68.823), He has seven top-10 finishes this season. See who he is backing at SportsLine.
