Who's Playing

New Mexico @ Nevada

Regular Season Records: New Mexico 13-18; Nevada 12-17

What to Know

The New Mexico Lobos haven't won a matchup against the Nevada Wolf Pack since Jan. 5 of 2019, but they'll be looking to end the drought Wednesday. New Mexico and Nevada are set to clash at 2 p.m. ET March 9 at Thomas & Mack Center in the first round of the Mountain West Conference Tournament. The Lobos will be strutting in after a win while the Wolf Pack will be stumbling in from a defeat.

New Mexico netted a 76-67 victory over the UNLV Rebels this past Saturday. It was another big night for New Mexico's guard Jaelen House, who had 27 points and five assists along with six rebounds.

Nevada lost a heartbreaker to the San Diego State Aztecs when they met in February, and they left with a heavy heart again this past Saturday. Nevada was just a bucket short of a victory and fell 79-78 to San Diego State. One thing holding Nevada back was the mediocre play of guard Kenan Blackshear, who did not have his best game: he played for 34 minutes but put up just eight points on 2-for-11 shooting.

New Mexico is expected to lose this next one by 6.5. They might be worth taking a chance on against the spread, however, as they are currently on a two-game streak of ATS wins.

A couple defensive stats to keep in the back of your head while watching: New Mexico is stumbling into the game with the 32nd most points allowed per game in college basketball, having given up 75.2 on average. The Wolf Pack have experienced some struggles of their own as they are 52nd worst in college basketball in points allowed per game, with 73.8 on average. It's possible one of these Achilles' heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
