Richmond @ Massachusetts
Current Records: Richmond 11-9; Massachusetts 11-8
What to Know
The Richmond Spiders are 6-1 against the Massachusetts Minutemen since February of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success Wednesday. The Spiders and UMass will face off in an Atlantic 10 battle at 7 p.m. ET at William D. Mullins Center. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W.'
The contest between Richmond and the VCU Rams last week was not particularly close, with Richmond falling 74-62. Forward Tyler Burton had a pretty forgettable game, playing for 38 minutes with and six turnovers.
Meanwhile, UMass was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap this past Saturday as they fell 74-68 to the Saint Joseph's Hawks. Massachusetts' loss came about despite a quality game from forward Matt Cross, who posted a double-double on 14 points and ten boards in addition to five assists.
Barring any buzzer beaters, Richmond is expected to win a tight contest. Now might not be the best time to take the Spiders against the spread since they've let down bettors for the past three consecutive games.
Richmond is now 11-9 while the Minutemen sit at 11-8. A couple numbers to keep in mind before tip-off: Richmond is stumbling into the matchup with the 38th fewest takeaways in college basketball, having accrued only 11.4 on average. UMass has experienced some struggles of their own as they are 40th worst in college basketball in turnovers per game, with 14.5 on average. It's possible one of these Achilles' heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
