Brandon Tate: Let go by Saints
Tate was released by the Saints on Tuesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
Tate re-signed with the Saints last week and played four special teams snaps Sunday, but did not see the field on offense. The veteran receiver will hope to latch on elsewhere and has 71 receptions for 1,099 yards over his 10-year career.

Saints' Brandon Tate: Re-signs with Saints
Tate agreed to re-sign with the Saints on Tuesday, Josh Katzenstein of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
Tate re-joins New Orleans about a month after being waived by the Saints. He'll likely be used on special teams but could also provide depth at the receiver position. The 10-year veteran has 71 receptions in his career.

Brandon Tate: Waived Friday
Tate was waived by the Saints on Friday, Josh Katzenstein of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
Tate was competing for a depth receiver role with the Saints, but his best chance to make the roster was as a kick and punt returner. He ended up losing out in his bid for a roster spot, and he'll now become a free agent if he clears waivers.

Saints' Brandon Tate: Signs with New Orleans
The Saints signed Tate to a contract Tuesday, Nick Underhill of The Baton Rouge Advocate reports.
After stints in New England, Cincinnati and Buffalo, Tate will need to turn some heads during training camp if he hopes to land on New Orleans' final roster. The Saints now have 13 healthy receivers on their roster, so the veteran pass catcher will have his work cut out for him.

Bills' Brandon Tate: Kickoff returns lacking
Tate finished the 2017 campaign with a 19.6-yard average on 28 kickoff returns and a 9.7-yard average on 20 punt returns. He also caught six passes for 81 yards and a touchdown while occasionally chipping in on offense.
The punt return average put Tate sixth in the NFL, but the kickoff return work was lacking and his worst per-return average in his lengthy NFL career. The latter ranked him last among the 12 NFL players with enough attempts to qualify on the league's special teams leaderboard. Tate, who's been in the league since 2009, is now an unrestricted free agent and there's talk the Bills will let him go and look for something a little more youthful with more upside in the return game. The receiver-needy Bills could also use someone that fills the spot as a return specialist while also offering a better potential than Tate for offensive duty.

Bills' Brandon Tate: Won't play against Jets
Tate is inactive for Thursday's game against the Jets.
It looks like some combination of Jordan Matthews, Micah Hyde, Taiwan Jones and Deonte Thompson will serve as the primary return men Thursday. Tate is one of the league's better returners, but he doesn't offer much in the receiving game even though he made a big play last week against the Raiders. Coach Sean McDermott must have a different strategy set for this week, while Tate's outlook may not get much better once the Bills start suiting up newcomer Kelvin Benjamin in Week 10. Tate's best hope might be if his special teams replacements simply botch the job.

Bills' Brandon Tate: Gets called upon in Week 5
Tate caught two of four targets for 25 yards in Sunday's 20-16 loss to the Bengals, while also putting up 58 return yards on two punt returns and a kickoff return.
Tate was needed in the receiving game due to the injury to Jordan Matthews, and while his 34 snaps (49 percent) were just the third most on the team, there's value to be had if you have a unique scoring system that values return yards, as he's one of the league's better return guys. As for his role in the offense, Tate only has seven receiving touchdowns over 116 NFL games, so keep your expectations in check on that side of the equation.

Bills' Brandon Tate: Inactive in Atlanta
Tate is a healthy inactive for Sunday's game in Atlanta, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.
This seems strange to us since Tate is one of the league's better return men, but the Bills can also use Kaelin Clay on returns and Clay is probably a better receiver. The Bills have no stars and could use some depth in the passing game, so apparently Clay is the choice between those two for this week. In any matter, find another returner for Week 4 if your league uses those.

Bills' Brandon Tate: Inactive for Week 2
Tate was a healthy inactive for Sunday's loss at Carolina.
The Bills chose to use Kaelin Clay in the returner role, possibly because Clay came over from the Panthers and coach Sean McDermott thought he'd have better knowledge of how to bust one against his former team. In reality, this was kind of a strange decision, as Tate is one of the league's better return men and has performed well in his 16 games with the Bills. Since Clay didn't do much in the game besides mishandling a punt, we'd expect Tate to be handling the return duties again in short order.

Bills' Brandon Tate: Back at practice
Tate, who suffered a minor calf injury last weekend, has returned to training camp practices.
The Bills have some decent returners in camp between the experienced Tate, Rashad Ross and the recently signed Taiwan Jones. Tate is the best skilled of the group, however, and seems to have a good shot at landing the final receiver spot based on his special teams prowess.

Bills' Brandon Tate: Injured during Saturday's practice
Tate suffered a calf injury during Saturday's training camp practice and is considered day-to-day, Chris Brown of BuffaloBills.com reports.
The Bills have a logjam of receivers trying to win jobs below the 3-4 locks to make the team, while Tate -- assuming this is only a minor injury -- seems like one of the better bets based on his excellent return skills. Tate is expected to be re-evaluated ahead of Sunday's session.
