  • Mike Adams: Hanging up cleats

Adams announced his retirement from football Wednesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

The 38-year-old safety was a 16-game starter as recently as 2018, which capped off a stretch of five consecutive seasons with multiple interceptions and 69 or more tackles. Adams then spent 2019 in a backup role with the Texans, his sixth team in 16 professional seasons. He got the start in 149 of his 228 career regular-season appearances, piling up 935 tackles, 90 pass defenses, 30 interceptions, 16 fumble recoveries, 13 forced fumbles and six sacks. Adams had a late peak in 2014 and 2015 for the Colts, picking off five passes and earning a Pro Bowl nod in both seasons.

  • Texans' Mike Adams: Ready to rock

Adams (concussion) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice.

Adams has missed two straight contests while nursing a concussion, but he now appears ready to retake the field. His return will provide a notable boost to Houston's depth in the secondary for Sunday's game against the Patriots.

  • Texans' Mike Adams: Out for TNF

Adams (concussion) won't play in Thursday's matchup against the Colts.

Adams was active for Week 11's loss to the Ravens but didn't play after suffering a concussion during warmups. The 38-year-old safety didn't make enough progress in the league's concussion protocol on the short week, so he'll watch a second straight game from the sidelines. Justin Reid (concussion) is also ruled out, so Tashaun Gipson (back) -- he's listed as questionable -- A.J. Moore and Jahleel Addae will round out the team's safety corps.

  • Texans' Mike Adams: Injured in warmups

Adams suffered a concussion during warmups and is ruled out for Sunday's game against the Ravens.

Adams absence hurts the Texans' secondary depth, but the team still has four healthy safeties. The 38-year-old will look to make a quick turnaround for Thursday's matchup against the Colts.

  • Texans' Mike Adams: Secures deal with Texans

Adams signed with the Texans on Monday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.

The Texans are struggling defensively, as they've allowed 259 passing yards per game (ranked 20th) and 114 rushing yards per game (16th) through four games. Adams, who turned 38 years old in March, provides a veteran presence to complement safeties Justin Reid and Tashaun Gipson. He was a starter for the Panthers last year, registering 75 tackles, six pass breakups and three interceptions. It's unclear how much he'll play for the Texans, but it looks like he could fill in as a nickel safety.

  • Panthers' Mike Adams: Won't stay with Panthers

Adams will not re-sign with the Panthers, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.

Adams was a 16-game starter the past two seasons in Carolina, averaging 72 tackles, eight passes defensed and 2.5 interceptions, though he struggled in coverage during the 2018 campaign. The Panthers hope to get younger and faster on defense, albeit without an obvious replacement on the roster to start alongside Eric Reid at safety. The team may look to the draft to address its deficiency, while Adams will hit the open market in mid-March shortly before he celebrates his 38th birthday. He has already announced his intention to continue playing football for at least one more season.

  • Panthers' Mike Adams: Another productive campaign

Adams finished the 2018 regular season with 75 tackles (47 solo) and three interceptions on six passes defended in 16 games played.

Adams remains a productive player despite being 37 years old, as he's now topped 60 tackles in all but four of his 15 seasons. That includes eight straight campaigns with that achievement, which should result in interest in him as he becomes a free agent this offseason. The veteran ranked fourth on the Panthers in tackles, trailing only linebackers Luke Kuechly, Thomas Davis and Shaq Thompson.

Adams recorded nine tackles (six solo) in Sunday's loss to Detroit.

Adams' nine tackles Sunday is his season high through 10 games. The veteran safety has been a consistent performer for the Panthers this season. He's on pace for a career high in tackles in what is his age-37 season. He'll look to continue the strong play next week, when Carolina takes on the Seahawks.

  • Panthers' Mike Adams: Shows nose for ball

Adams finished with 69 tackles (48 solo), two interceptions, two fumble recoveries and two fumbles forced in 16 games played this season.

Adams, who joined the Panthers last offseason, tied for the team high by having a hand in six turnovers forced. While that boosted his value, the 36-year-old posted his fewest tackles since 2013. Nonetheless, he still ranked fifth on Carolina in stops, and will be back in 2018 for the final year of his contract.

He'll now be tasked with containing the Buccaneers' passing offense as the Panthers remain in the thick of the playoff race.

Adams was a full participant at Thursday's practice after being limited Wednesday with a knee injury.

Adams' full participation Thursday has him on track to play in Sunday's game against the Saints. The safety and the rest of Carolina's defense will look to slow down New Orleans' red-hot rushing attack.

Adams was a full participant in Friday's practice after dealing with a shoulder stinger and concussion-like symptoms, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Charlotte Observer reports.

  • Panthers' Mike Adams: Missing practice Wednesday

Adams (shoulder) isn't practicing Wednesday, Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer reports.

Adams sustained a shoulder stinger during last week's victory over the Falcons. It's possible the Panthers coaching staff is simply giving him extra time off to fully recover. Thus, his availability for Monday's matchup with the Dolphins doesn't seem to be in danger quite yet.

Adams sustained a shoulder stinger in Sunday's win over the Falcons and will undergo X-rays, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.

  • Panthers' Mike Adams: Nabs first INT of season

Adams made three solo tackles and hauled in an interception Sunday against the Buccaneers.

Although Adams was low on tackles Sunday, it was a good sign that he was able to force his first turnover of the season. However, he remains inconsistent in his tackle count, so it's risky to summon him as an IDP asset at this time.
