Jaguars' Paul Posluszny: Announcing retirement
Posluszny (abdomen) is retiring, Ryan O'Halloran of The Florida Times-Union reports.
Posluszny averaged at least 7.4 tackles per game every season of his career until 2017, at which point he was scaled back to an early down role and managed just 61 tackles (3.8 per game). He was expected to spend his offseason rehabbing from sports hernia surgery, but he'll instead turns his focus to the next chapter of life, retiring with 1,212 tackles, 16 sacks, 15 interceptions and eight forced fumbles in 145 regular-season games. The 33-year-old was one of the top tackle compilers of his generation, but he hadn't reached the playoffs until last season, spending four years in Buffalo and seven in Jacksonville. The Jaguars will be in good hands with Telvin Smith and Myles Jack serving as three-down linebackers, while Donald Payne could get a chance to replace Posluszny in the base defense.

Jaguars' Paul Posluszny: Likely to require offseason surgery
Posluszny (abdomen), who is active for Sunday's divisional-round game against the Steelers, is expected to require sports hernia surgery after the season, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
The linebacker has been playing through the painful core-muscle injury for the last few weeks and was unable to finish out the Jaguars' 10-3 win over the Bills in the wild-card round. Though he avoided an injury designation heading into the weekend after practicing fully Friday, Posluszny could cede more snaps than usual to Blair Brown on Sunday while he plays at less-than-full strength.

Posluszny sustained some sort of abdominal injury last weekend against the Bills and wasn't available to practice Wednesday. His return to the field Thursday offers hope that he'll be cleared to play in time for Sunday's tilt with the Steelers.

Posluszny was forced to exit the Jaguars' wild-card win over the Bills last weekend due to a hip issue, but it appears Jacksonville has since reclassified the veteran's injury. The linebacker may need to put in at least a limited practice Thursday or Friday in order to gain clearance for Sunday's divisional-round matchup with the Steelers.

Jaguars' Paul Posluszny: Unable to finish playoff game
Posluszny left Sunday's win over the Bills in the second quarter with a hip injury and did not return, NFL.com reports.
Poz did not register as much as a tackle before departing, though he probably felt a little better when the Jags eventually knocked his former team out of the playoffs. Jacksonville faces a far superior offense to the lackluster unit the Bills offered up when the team travels to Pittsburgh next week, so it'd a nice break if its starting middle linebacker can return for the divisional round.

Jaguars' Paul Posluszny: Set to play Sunday
Posluszny (groin) logged a full practice Friday and heads into Sunday's matchup against the Seahawks without an injury designation.
Posluszny was originally considered questionable to play in Week 14 after practicing on a limited basis Thursday due to his groin injury, but the issue no longer appears to be a factor. The Jaguars' starting middle linebacker logged a season-high 14 tackles last week against the Colts, so he'll look to feed off that performance on Sunday.

The veteran linebacker appeared on the practice report after logging a full session on Wednesday. Posluszny is coming off his best performance of the season -- 14 tackles (10 solo) and 1.5 sacks Sunday against the Colts -- so his absence this week would be a major loss for the resurgent Jaguars defense. Posluszny tallied 14 tackles (10 solo) and 1.5 sacks in Sunday's win over the Colts.
The effort from Posluszny is by far his best of the season, as he more than doubled his previous season-high tackle total and also broke into the sack column. The 33-year-old has put together a solid three-week stretch but remains a difficult to trust IDP-option given his numbers over the course of this season.

Jaguars' Paul Posluszny: Shifting to strong-side linebacker
Posluszny will shift to strong-side linebacker this season to make room for Myles Jack at middle linebacker, Ryan O'Halloran of The Florida Times-Union reports.
Posluszny has been a stronghold for Jacksonville at middle linebacker the past six seasons but will now make the change as the team ushers in a new era on defense. "It will be a change, but that's what's going to be best for the team so we're going to give it a shot," the 32-year-old linebacker said. The shift means Posluszny isn't likely to be involved in nickel packages, which would significantly cut down his playing time. Last season, he registered 133 tackles, three pass deflections, 1.5 sacks, and one interception through 16 games.
