  • Kaylon Geiger: Let go by Bucs

Tampa Bay will waive Geiger on Monday, Greg Auman of Fox Sports reports.

Geiger appeared in three games for the Buccaneers as a rookie last season, but he finds himself an early casualty of roster cutdowns. The second-year pro did put forth a strong showing in Tampa Bay's preseason opener, though, and he could be a candidate to resurface on the practice squad.

  • Buccaneers' Kaylon Geiger: One catch in preseason win

Geiger brought in one of two targets for eight yards in the Buccaneers' 13-6 preseason win over the Jets on Saturday night.

Geiger saw a notable downturn in production after standing out with a 4-50-0 line in the preseason opener. The second-year pro's underwhelming production was especially disappointing in light of the fact he logged a robust 28 snaps overall. Moreover, given that Rakim Jarrett, a primary competitor for a reserve receiver role, shined with three catches for 84 yards Saturday, Geiger will likely need to stand out significantly in Saturday night's preseason finale against the Ravens to have a chance to stick on the final roster.

  • Buccaneers' Kaylon Geiger: Strong showing in preseason opener

Geiger brought in four of five targets for 50 yards, rushed once for two yards and returned one punt for four yards in the Buccaneers' 27-17 preseason loss to the Steelers on Friday night. He also lost a fumble.

The second-year pro was brought back on a reserve/future contract in January after logging eight offensive snaps alongside 17 special-teams plays across three games in 2022. Geiger is now fighting to earn a roster spot on the latter portion of the Buccaneers' wideout depth chart, which is crowded with solid talents like veteran David Moore, the promising Deven Thompkins and rookie Trey Palmer. While his turnover Saturday is undeniably a blemish, Geiger's overall body of work Friday certainly has to be considered a positive.

  • Buccaneers' Kaylon Geiger: Inks future deal

Tampa Bay signed Geiger to a reserve/future contract Tuesday, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.

Geiger made three appearances for Tampa Bay during the 2022 campaign, but he played more on special teams (17 snaps) than he did on offense. With his new deal, the undrafted wideout out of Texas Tech will have a chance to compete for a larger role throughout the offseason.

  • Kaylon Geiger: Back to practice squad

Geiger reverted to the Buccaneers' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log.

Geiger played four snaps on offense in the Week 5 win over the Falcons, but he failed to tally any stats. It was his third elevation from the practice squad, so he'll need to be signed to the active roster if he's going to play for Tampa Bay again this season.

  • Buccaneers' Kaylon Geiger: Suiting up vs. Atlanta

Tampa Bay elevated Geiger from its practice squad Saturday ahead of Sunday's game versus the Falcons.

This will be the third game this season Geiger is active for the Buccaneers and the last time he's eligible to be elevated from the practice squad before he would have to be signed to the team's active roster in order to suit up. The 24-year-old wideout has not registered a target in 2022, but he could feasibly see more work than usual with Julio Jones (knee) and Russell Gage (knee) both listed as questionable.

  • Kaylon Geiger: Signs with Bucs' practice squad

The Buccaneers signed Geiger to their practice squad Tuesday, Greg Auman of The Athletic reports.

Geiger was let go by Tampa Bay on Monday, but he signed with the team's practice squad Tuesday after he cleared waivers. The 24-year-old receiver played four offensive snaps (six percent) during Sunday's 14-12 loss to the Packers, while he was also active for the team's Week 2 contest against New Orleans. However, Geiger's recent opportunities came at the expense of fellow WRs Mike Evans (suspension), Chris Godwin (hamstring) and Julio Jones (knee) all being held out Week 3. Once the team's receiver corps returns to full health, the 180-pounder will likely have a difficult time competing for snaps.

  • Kaylon Geiger: Waived by Tampa Bay

Geiger was waived by the Buccaneers on Monday.

The 24-year-old joined the Buccaneers' active roster for Sunday's loss to the Packers since Mike Evans was suspended. Geiger played just three offensive snaps but will be let go now that Evans' suspension is over. If Geiger clears waivers, it wouldn't be surprising to see him wind up back on Tampa Bay's practice squad.

  • Buccaneers' Kaylon Geiger: Signed to active roster

The Buccaneers signed Geiger from the practice squad to the active roster Wednesday, Greg Auman of The Athletic reports.

With Julio Jones (knee) and Chris Godwin (hamstring) out, Geiger was elevated to the active roster and made his NFL debut in the team's win over the Saints on Sunday, playing eight total snaps (one offensive). It's unclear when Jones or Godwin will be able to play again and Mike Evans is facing a possible one-game suspension, so Geiger has received a more secure spot on the active roster, though he figures to still operate primarily on special teams.

  • Buccaneers' Kaylon Geiger: Elevated to active roster

The Buccaneers elevated Geiger from the practice squad to their active roster Saturday for Sunday's game against the Saints.

Geiger, an undrafted rookie, inked a practice-squad deal with Tampa Bay at the end of August after failing to land a spot on the Buccaneers' initial 53-man roster. Tampa Bay has already ruled out Chris Godwin (hamstring) and has four other wideouts listed as questionable, so it's currently unclear what the Buccaneers' receiving corps will look like in Week 2.

Geiger will return to the Buccaneers' organization after being waived Tuesday. The wide receiver joined the team in May after going undrafted in the 2022 NFL Draft and will now look to crack the active roster at some point this season.

  • Kaylon Geiger: Let go by Tampa Bay

The Buccaneers waived Geiger on Tuesday, Greg Auman of The Athletic reports.

Geiger signed with the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent out of Texas Tech, where he caught 44 passes for 533 yards and a score during his final collegiate campaign. The 5-foot-10 wideout caught all four of his targets for 52 yards during the preseason opener but operated primarily on special teams during the final two exhibition contests. Per Auman, Geiger is a likely candidate to join Tampa Bay's practice squad if he clears waivers.

  • Buccaneers' Kaylon Geiger: Solid as kickoff returner Saturday

Geiger didn't log any targets but returned three kickoffs for 68 yards in the Buccaneers' 27-10 preseason loss to the Colts on Saturday night.

Geiger's final in-game audition for a roster spot went relatively well, even as he failed to log any targets over his 16 snaps from scrimmage. However, the Texas Tech product did lead the Buccaneers with an average of 22.7 yards per kickoff return, and he'd also put some good work on film as a receiver in the preseason opener against the Dolphins (four receptions, 52 yards). Nevertheless, it will likely come down to the wire for Geiger due to formidable competition in the form of Deven Thompkins, but the former could certainly still be a candidate for the practice squad if he can't make the final cut.

  • Buccaneers' Kaylon Geiger: Four catches in preseason opener

Geiger brought in all four targets for 52 yards and returned one punt for no gain in the Buccaneers' 26-24 preseason loss to the Dolphins on Saturday night.

The undrafted Texas Tech product put some good work on tape during the exhibition opener, checking in second or tied for second in receptions, receiving yards and targets on the night. Andrew Crane of the Tampa Bay Times notes head coach Todd Bowles made specific mention of the rookie's performance, which included 26- and 19-yard catches, noting "Geiger turned it on" when running through which young wideouts made a strong impression during the contest. Despite the encouraging showing, however, Geiger still faces long odds to snag a spot in a deep receiver room, but he could certainly be a candidate for the practice squad with another pair of strong performances this preseason.
