Titans' Julius Chestnut: Finds role late in rookie season
Chestnut ended the 2022 season with nine rushing attempts for 12 yards. He added three receptions for 41 yards and 215 kick return yards.
Chestnut joined the Titans as an undrafted free agent prior to the 2022 season. He was inactive for each of Tennessee's first 11 games but closed the season with an increased role as he suited up for the final six contests. While Derrick Henry will continue to dominate carries out of the backfield in 2023, Chestnut could be a valuable special teams contributor, as he chipped in at least 40 kick return yards in three of the last five games to close 2022.

Titans' Julius Chestnut: Makes impact as pass catcher
Chestnut rushed the ball four times for minus-one yard in Thursday's 27-13 loss to the Cowboys. He added one reception for 33 yards.
Chestnut played 14 offensive snaps, second on the team behind Hassan Haskins. He was bottled up on the ground, though he did manage to set the Titans up for a field goal with his 33-yard reception late in the second quarter. With Derrick Henry (hip) expected to return in Week 18 against Jacksonville, Chestnut will slip back to third on the running back depth chart.

Titans' Julius Chestnut: Signs with active roster
Tennessee signed Chestnut to its active roster Saturday ahead of Sunday's game at the Chargers, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.
With fellow reserve running back Dontrell Hilliard (neck) landing on the injured reserve list Saturday, Tennessee saw fit to bring Chestnut on board to provide some depth at tailback. The rookie undrafted free agent has taken five carries for 13 yards and caught two passes for eight yards through two games this season.

Titans' Julius Chestnut: Bumps back down to practice squad
Chestnut reverted to the Titans' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Chestnut was elevated from the practice squad for the second time in as many weeks ahead of Sunday's loss to Jacksonville. With Hassan Haskins (hip) inactive and Trenton Cannon (knee) on IR, the undrafted rookie served as Tennessee's third-string running back behind Dontrell Hilliard, who was forced out with a neck injury. Chestnut did not record a rush across his seven offensive snaps, but he did haul in both of his targets for eight yards. He also returned two kickoffs for 53 yards across 12 special-teams snaps. With Hilliard already ruled out Week 15 versus the Chargers, it's likely that Chestnut would be elevated to serve as Tennessee's No. 2 running back if Haskins also remains sidelined.

Titans' Julius Chestnut: Tallies 10 carries in preseason win
Chestnut carried the ball 10 times for 35 yards in Saturday's preseason win over Tampa Bay. He added two receptions for 10 yards.
Chestnut was the third Tennessee back to earn a touch, behind both Dontrell Hilliard and Hassan Haskins. He had a few significant runs late in the game that helped pad his yardage total, and he also made a tackle on special teams. The latter is his likeliest path to a roster spot, as he appears to be buried on the depth chart behind Derrick Henry and both Hilliard and Haskins.

Titans' Julius Chestnut: Mixed bag in preseason opener
Chestnut rushed seven times for 44 yards and secured his only target for 12 yards in the Titans' 23-10 preseason loss to the Ravens on Thursday night. He also lost a fumble.
Chestnut's efficiency on a per-touch basis was impressive, although he did short-circuit the Titans' second drive with a fumble that ultimately led to the Ravens' first touchdown. The undrafted free agent has an uphill battle for a roster spot, but the miscue aside, Chestnut largely was able to carry over the momentum he'd generated in camp practices, and Turron Davenport of ESPN.com reports head coach Mike Vrabel was pleased with how well the rookie bounced back from the early mistake. The Sacred Heart alum will look to continue making his case in the Titans' exhibition clash against the Buccaneers a week from Saturday night.
